Sadiq Khan, the mayor of London, has tweeted his response to the prime minister's address tonight.

In a statement, he reiterated that Londoners should "still stay at home as much as possible" and urged them to continue to avoid public transport and work remotely if they can.

'What a mess'

Cardiff South and Penarth MP Stephen Doughty has said Prime Minister Boris Johnson's statement begs "many more questions than it answers."

The figures about the deaths in Spain with regard to the age group and underlying health problems - 86% of those died were over 70 and 95% of them had at least one underlying health condition.

I would expect UK and every other country to be similar figures.

Spaniards can return to cafes

A little over half of Spain's 47 million will feel the lockdown ease after the country on Sunday registered its lowest number of daily Covid-19 deaths since mid-March, Reuters reported.

Spain had one of the strictest lockdowns in Europe, which saw children under 14 confined to their homes for six weeks. Earlier in May, the country outlined a plan to lift restrictions. These relaxations will be rolled out in two-week blocks until 10 June, subject to review if cases spike.

From today, some Spaniards can meet at bars and restaurants with outside spaces. Photos on Monday morning showed people enjoying cups of coffee outside cafes under blue skies.

Churches and mosques will be allowed to reopen, but only at limited capacity, and schools may partially reopen from 26 May.

But these new relaxations only apply to certain parts of the country - cities like Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia will remain under lockdown.

Spain's La Liga hopes to restart on 12 June

The top-flight of professional football in Spain hopes to restart on 12 June, league president Javier Tebas has said.

La Liga has been suspended since March but started testing players last week as it plans to resume training and play matches behind closed doors.

Five players from across Spain's top two divisions tested positive on Sunday but Tebas says regular testing will mean “practically zero” risk to players during games.

“I’d like it [the restart date] to be 12 June,” Tebas told Movistar.

“But we have to be careful. It will depend on many factors such as a potential rise in infections, factors which don’t depend on football but on Spanish society."

Spain is one of Europe's worst-hit countries but has begun easing its strict lockdown. Some Spaniards can meet at bars and restaurants from today.

Spain's daily coronavirus death toll has fallen to 123, the health ministry said, its lowest level in seven weeks. It puts the overall death toll at 26,744.

Authorities also announced that confirmed cases rose to 227,436, up from 224,390 on Sunday.

As you said Annis - the weekend figs reported Sunday and Monday are always low compared to the rest of the week .

I have noticed of late both Italy and Spain are recording lower deaths of late - Which is welcoming news .

Lets hope it's the same over here soon mate .

France's death toll from the coronavirus rose by 348 to 26,991 on Tuesday, overtaking Spain to become the country with the world's fourth-highest number of fatalities after the United States, Britain and Italy.

There have been more than 500 deaths involving coronavirus in care homes in Wales so far, according to latest figures.

The 504 deaths notified to the Care Inspectorate Wales by local councils include 350 in care homes themselves and 137 deaths of residents taken to hospital.

Another 17 care home residents' deaths happened elsewhere.

Cardiff has the most care home deaths notified in Wales - 73.

Other figures from the Office for National Statistics, covering registered deaths, have 532 deaths involving Covid-19 in care homes in Wales.

This is the lowest number of nations and regions across England and Wales, registered up to 9 May.

But the ONS found the number of deaths overall among care home residents has increased compared to 2019.

Spain reports lowest rise in Covid-19 deaths since mid-March

Spain’s overnight death toll from Covid-19 was 102, the health ministry has said, marking the country’s lowest 24-hour rise since mid-March.

The cumulative death toll rose to 27,563. Meanwhile, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 230,698 on Saturday from 230,183 on Friday.

As has become customary during the coronavirus crisis, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez made his weekly televised address on Saturday afternoon to offer an update on the current situation regarding the pandemic. He announced that he would be requesting a last extension to the state of alarm, this time for a month, and also said that the deescalation process could be completed in half of the country by the beginning of summer.

Spanish PM to seek another lockdown extension

Spain's Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez has said he'll ask parliament for a further - and final - extension to the state of emergency declared over coronavirus.

Sánchez wants it to be extended for a month, instead of the customary two weeks. The current extension is due to expire in a week's time.

The prime minister has been facing growing political opposition to renewing emergency powers.

About 100 people held an anti- government protest in Seville, despite coronavirus restrictions.

Earlier Spain reported its lowest daily total of coronavirus-related deaths for more than two months - 102. As of Saturday, the total national death toll stands at 27,563, while number of cases has risen to 230,183.

Spain, one of the world's worst-hit countries by coronavirus, has released its latest figures which show its daily death toll dropped below 100 for the first time in two months.

It was 87 on Sunday, the health ministry said, bringing the total deaths from the virus to 27,650. The number of confirmed cases edged up to 231,350 from 230,698, the ministry said.

Overall Spain best figures since the start will appear on the World Meter page - 1214 cases and 87 deaths.

The Government page shows same deaths and only 421 new cases (PCR) - bettered only once on 11th May when there were 373

Spain: Death toll lowest in two months

Spain has reported 87 additional deaths today, the first time in two months that the daily toll has dropped below 100.

At the height of the current outbreak in early April, Spain counted 950 fatalities in a single day. The current death toll now stands at 27,650, amid 231,000 confirmed cases.

Last Monday Spain began a three-phase plan to end lockdowns for half the country by the end of June. Tomorrow restrictions in most of the country will be further relaxed - though Madrid and Barcelona will not see lockdown measures eased.

The head of the emergency health center, Fernando Simon, said today's figures were "good news", and that Spain is now "very close" to putting an end to the transmission of the virus.

UK daily death toll lowest since lockdown began

The daily figure for coronavirus deaths in the UK has dropped to 170, the lowest since the day after the lockdown began on 24 March.

While numbers are typically lower on Sundays, today's figure is almost 100 fewer than the 268 reported a week ago.

Seventy per cent of Spain is now in phase one of the government’s planned three-phase lifting of the national lockdown.

Today, several provinces along the Mediterranean coast in Valencia, in the southern region of Andalusia, and in the country’s interior joined other areas which moved into phase one last week.

Cafes and restaurants in those places can now serve customers, but only at outdoor tables; groups of up to 10 people can gather in the street or in homes; and smaller cultural events are allowed to take place.

In the southern coastal city of Malaga, for example, many bars and restaurants opened after two months of closure to serve customers outdoors. However, there has been a heavy police presence there and in other cities to ensure that continuing restrictions are respected.

Madrid and Barcelona are not yet in phase one, due to safety concerns, and therefore remain under tighter restrictions.

UK reports a further 545 virus deaths

George Eustice reports an additional 545 people have died in the UK after testing positive for Covid-19, bringing the total to 35,341.

That’s a jump from yesterday’s reported figure of 160 - but it’s important to say we have been seeing lower totals over weekends and at the start of the week.

There has been a lag, sometimes weeks, between when deaths have occurred and then shown up in this daily figure - which now covers deaths in all settings.

A different total, covering deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate, stood at 41,020 as of 8 May, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Spain's PM under fire as he looks to extend state of emergency

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has asked parliament to extend the country's state of emergency for another two weeks, drawing fierce criticism from opposition parties.

Mr Sanchez told parliament the extension was necessary to protect communities because the threat from coronavirus had not gone away.

He defended his government’s response to the pandemic, but apologised to Spanish citizens for any mistakes his government had made.

The government wants to extend the state of alarm for a fifth time to 7 June when it expires on Saturday.

Spain’s main opposition party, the conservative People's Party, said it would not vote for the extension, putting its passage through parliament in doubt.

The party’s leader, Pablo Casado, delivered a withering assessment of Mr Sanchez’s handling of the epidemic.

In a speech to lawmakers, Mr Casado said coronavirus-related deaths in Spain were still equivalent to "a plane crash every day", calling Mr Sanchez’s plan a “failure”.

Spain recorded a further 83 deaths on Tuesday, bringing the total to 27,778, the fifth highest in the world.

Lockdowns to ease in Madrid and Barcelona on Monday

Coronavirus lockdowns will be eased in Madrid and Barcelona from Monday to allow outdoor dining and gatherings of up to 10 people as infections have slowed sufficiently, the government has said.

Restrictions will be relaxed even further in other regions comprising about half of Spain's population.

Spain started phasing out one of Europe's toughest lockdowns earlier this month, but full restrictions had remained in both Madrid and Barcelona because their outbreaks were so severe.

In Barcelona, beaches were opened for walking this week, but public swimming and sunbathing will remain banned.

"Each step we make, must be a safe one," Health Minister Salvador Illa said. "Since the phase-out process is complex, I want to call for individual responsibility."
Other areas of Spain will move to another phase of the return to normality, with theatres, cinemas, art galleries, museums can reopen there from Monday at no more than a third of capacity. Some schools will restart, and some outdoor activities such as hunting and fishing will be allowed again.

Trips between provinces are still banned, however.
Bars and restaurants in Madrid and Barcelona will be allowed to reopen on pavements and terraces at half capacity from Monday, churches can also throw open their doors again, and people will be free to travel outside the cities.

Spain: Covid-19 death toll reaches 28,752

Spain's coronavirus death has risen by 70, taking the country's total death toll to 28,752.

Spain has revised its coronavirus death toll down by nearly 2,000 due to some fatalities being counted twice.

The toll now stands at more than 26,800 rather than the 28,700 reported before.

In addition to some deaths being counted twice, others had originally been notified as suspected or probably cases of Covid-19 which were subsequently not confirmed, officials said.

Spain - one of the worst affected countries - continues to relax its lockdown measures. From 1 July, foreign visitors to the country will no longer have to undergo a two-week quarantine.

The Spanish Health Ministry on Monday revised downward the official coronavirus death toll in Spain. The total number of victims since the beginning of the pandemic stood on Sunday at 28,752. But on Monday, the figure reported was 26,834. This represents a drop of 1,918, or 7% of the total. The revision breaks the statistical series and devalues the figures reported in the previous days, given they can no longer be compared with the new ones. Following the evolution of the epidemic will be impossible until the Health Ministry reconstructs the series.

UK death toll rises by 377

The Department of Health and Social Care has just released today's coronavirus figures:

As of 9am 28 May, there have been 3,918,079 tests, with 119,587 tests carried out on 27 May.
So far 269,127 people have tested positive in the UK

Of those tested positive for coronavirus, across all settings, 37,837 have died as oof 5pm on 27 May; up from 377 the day before.

UK death toll rises to 38,161

Speaking at the daily press briefing, Rishi Sunak announced that the UK's death toll had risen to 38,161, an increase of 324 since yesterday.

After peaking in early April, Covid-19 cases in Spain are down to a trickle. On Thursday, the Health Ministry reported one single death in 24 hours for the second consecutive day. There were 38 fatalities in the last seven days.

The official death tally is now 27,119,
