5 celebrities you may not have known were Cardiff City fans

Cardiff City’s season has not gone the way that many involved with the club would’ve been hoping but they remain within reach of the top six.

Though with football suspended until further notice, any hopes or dreams of cementing a play-off spot will have to be put on hold.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of five celebrities that you may not have known were fans of the Bluebirds…

Roald Dahl

Dahl is one of the world’s most famous children’s authors, having written the likes of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and The BFG.

The author was born in Cardiff and before he sadly passed away in 1990 was a big fan of the club.

Dahl regularly attended home matches in both the 1920s and 1980s and included accounts of watching the Bluebirds in some of his books.

Have Cardiff City done these 15 things in the last 10 years? – Yes or no? Have a go now!

Guto Pryce

Pryce is part of the band Super Furry Animals, who have recorded nine UK Top 25 albums.

The 47-year-old was born in the Welsh capital and is a big fan of the Bluebirds, having attended his first match back in the 1980s.

Such is his support, that the Super Furry Animals famously sponsored the club’s kit back in 1999.

Neil Kinnock

Kinnock is a former MP, leader of the Labour Party and leader of the opposition.

Born in Monmouthshire and alumni of Cardiff University, he is also an outspoken fan of the Bluebirds.

Such is his love for the club that he’s even reportedly escorted out of Craven Cottage for celebrating a goal in the home end.

Gareth Thomas

Thomas is a former Wales rugby player–having made 100 appearances for his country and featured on the wing, at centre, and at full-back.

The 45-year-old is also a Cardiff fan and his head-slapping celebration comes from a Bluebirds fan favourite known as the ‘Ayatollah’.

Stuart Cable

Cable was a founding member of the Stereophonics and helped them produce multiple successful albums before leaving in 2003.

The Stereophonics drummer sadly died at the age of 40 in 2010 but it is understood that he was an avid Cardiff fan.
