Peter Horby, from Oxford University, says the UK has been carrying out "by far the biggest clinical trials in the world".

He says what they found from Dexamethasone "was really quite remarkable".

He says 75% of patients in hospital will receive a benefit from the drug.

"This is really good news," he adds.

Horby says the drug has been around for decades and is "extremely cheap".

The professor explains that the cost of saving eight patients in intensive care was about £40.

He says a study of the drug found "remarkable" results - and it could reduce the chance of death by about 35% for patients on ventilators.

For those who require oxygen it was about 20%, he says.

But he says it is "not a drug that you would use in the community" at large.

The Premier League returns on Wednesday... but not exactly as we know it.

After a 100-day absence because of the coronavirus pandemic, Aston Villa v Sheffield United will kick off the English top-flight's resumption.

It is the first of 92 league games that will be packed into a frantic 40 days before the season concludes on 26 July.

Fixtures will be played behind closed doors as one of a host of measures to prevent any further cases of the virus.

A minute's silence to remember those who have died with coronavirus will be held before the first matches, while heart-shaped badges in tribute to frontline NHS staff will also be worn on kits.

For the first 12 matches of the restarted campaign, all player names on the back of shirts will be replaced by "Black Lives Matter".

This follows the death of George Floyd in the United States, which has sparked protests worldwide.

Over eight rounds of twice-weekly coronavirus screenings of Premier League players and staff, there have been 16 positive results from 8,687 tests.

A chicken processing plant in North Wales has suspended production and closed for a fortnight after a coronavirus outbreak.

Public Health Wales said there were 51 confirmed Covid-19 cases at 2 Sisters in Llangefni on Anglesey, with 110 people said to be self-isolating - about a quarter of the 500-strong workforce.

The company produces from a number of sites about a third of all the poultry products eaten each day in the UK. It said it was temporarily shutting down the Llangefni unit to "demonstrate how seriously we take this issue".

2 Sisters Food Group is one of the largest food producers in the UK, with brands including Fox's Biscuits and Holland's Pies.

Health Minister Vaughan Gething said the outbreak was a "concern".

Anybody just watch BBC Wales news.
Our stadium manager explained where the coaching staff and subs would be sat,Socially distanced.
Then he pointed to the dugouts and said that’s where people who've got covid 19 passports will be sat.
Is that the way forward I wonder covid 19 passports. That’s the first time I’ve heard it mentioned.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said people in England "will not have long to wait" before they hear the government's decision on reducing the two-metre social-distancing rule.

The government has faced pressure from leaders of the hospitality sector and its own MPs to lessen the two-metre rule, with widespread concerns around the impact it is having on the economy.

The World Health Organization recommends a distance of at least one metre (just over 3ft), but the UK government's scientific advisers say that being one metre apart carries up to 10 times the risk of being two metres apart.

Johnson announced a review of the distance last week, with Chancellor Rishi Sunak confirming the results of said review would be published in the week ahead.

The prime minister said the government was proceeding "step by step... but it's very important that we don't lose our vice-like grip on the disease."

However, he added: "On the progress on social distancing, watch this space - and you won't have very much more to wait now."

BREAKING

2m rule to be reduced to 1m in England

Prime Minister Boris Johnson says from 4 July the two metre rule is to be relaxed to "one metre plus" where 2m is not possible - but people will be encouraged to have mitigation in place to reduce transmission.

He says: "We can now go further and safely ease the lockdown in England.

"At every stage, caution will remain our watch word. Each step will be conditional and reversible."

He didn't say anything of the sort. We probably are easing to quickly in my view but its a judgement call with little thanks for getting right and huge criticism for getting it wrong. Would of been better if we'd sustained transmission in the low hundreds before making decision. If the transmission figures go back up then I assume it will all go on hold.

Just been reading an article in the Construction Enq about a London based fit out contractor Collins Construction. They've had 250 employees and family members serology tested and its turned that 53% of them have actually had the virus, most with no or very low level symptoms. OK its just one small company but exactly the sort of confirmation that the virus was rife in London in March and the level of level of resistance to spreading in London may be better than the official figures given.
