MY VIEW / OPINION BIG WORRY BUT NOT JUST BECAUSE OF TODAYS

Postby Forever Blue » Sat Sep 12, 2020 3:57 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION BIG WORRY BUT NOT JUST BECAUSE OF TODAYS AWFUL PERFORMANCE BUT IT WAS WORSE AGAINST NORTHAMPTON & CITY HAVE NOT REALLY STRENGTHENED THEIR SQUAD, FOR ME ITS A WEAK SQUAD.

Harris says its a quality squad and big, he's the manager, but as a fan I Totally disagree.

Second Half: Cardiff huffed and puffed and achieved nothing and created hardly anything

Northampton away last week was awful as well with a strong City team.

CARDIFF CITY FIELDED A STRONG TEAM TODAY / ONE OF THE STRONGEST THEY COULD & FOR ME THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH IF? THEY WANT PROMOTION.

MY VIEW I AM WORRIED.

First half: I thought City were shocking against a mediocre Sheff Wed team and City deserved to be losing 0-2 at h/t.

Cardiff City began their 2020/21 Championship campaign today with three New signings Kieffer Moore, Jordi Osei-Tutu and Sheyi Ojo .

Cardiff City were playing at home against old rival Gary Monks Sheffield Wednesday who had started this new season minus 12pts.

CARDIFF CITY 0 SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY 2

H/T 0-2

TEAM :bluebird:

Cardiff City XI (4-3-3): Smithies; Osei-Tutu, Morrison, Nelson, Bennett; Vaulks, Ralls, Bacuna; Ojo, Moore, Hoilett.

Subs: Day, Bamba, Pack, Tomlin, Murphy, Paterson, Glatzel.

A sloppy 4th min goal, put Sheff Wed ahead a dreadful pass from Leandro Bacuna in midfield let Josh Windass in to score and made it 0-1 to Sheff Wed

Windass was becoming a thorn in Cardiff's side, Windass cut back inside Osei-Tutu and whipped an effort on goal, Smithies had to tip it over the bar.

44th min Sheff Wed
Goal! Cardiff City 0-2 Sheffield Wednesday (Rhodes 44), a clinical finish 0-2

H/T 0-2

58th min

Neil Harris makes

Double Cardiff City sub.

Hoilett off, Murphy on.

Ralls off, Glatzel on.

Cardiff were having all the ball but creating nothing

I will just say this awful

Outfought and outclassed in both games this season and let's face it we have looked a dis-organised rabble in both.

Your left thinking where do we go from here? and how confident are you we can get to 50 points this season.

I don’t normally criticise the players but that 2nd half was woeful

We have probably got the most physical and best header of a ball in the championship and we didn’t put one decent ball into the box he could attack. That is just ridiculous

Several players let the team down today and lost their individual battles

There is a month left of this window. Our present squad has relegation fight written all over it.

The Board must be made aware that players who can do the basics are needed.

Where the heck are we going to get 50 points from with this bunch of inadequate players?

Probably a season too far for some. A couple aren’t good enough at this level. If it carries on, Harris may as well stay for it’s above him who decides the playing staff.

Ok I prey and hope our owners put some of the £35mill sky money in to new players as we need them ASAP

Didn’t watch the game Annis but what I have heard the team was more interested in taking the knee and making racist gestures than playing football. They are a disgrace to the Club.

We have no quality, tomlin is out and it shows. We’ve never addressed a severe lack of quality, and needs looking at. That and the wingers as woeful. Have been for a few seasons. I don’t know who does our scouting but they need sorting.

If we don’t get a midfielder to control a game and some wingers who can cross a ball we are going to struggle.

Annis we need to be more direct especially when got moore upfront to often wrong ball was played into box when eventually got there!
What really is annoying is the persistence of playing throw ins and free kick to Morrison ? That is a failed ploy and as been for several seasons personally I wouldn't play Morrison other than being Capt what does he do? Or stop playing balls to him from dead ball situations.. :old:

Poor performance all around.

The things I took from today were:

1. We need a lot more players through the door to add quality to

2. Glatzel and Moore are too similar. If we can't provide the service to Moore, what on earth was adding Glatzel to that going to achieve too?

3. If Harris insists on picking Hoilett, he needs to be a 10. Playing on the wing is no good for him anymore. He hasn't got the legs and that was even more so evident today

4. Paterson needed to play. Wednesday were very physical and I think this is a game that would have suited him down to the ground. Would have been a better option off the bench than Glatzel IMO

5. Cunningham needs to be given a go and Bennett to the bench.

Unless something drastic happens it's going to be a long season. I always look for the positives in our performances but it's hard to pick any out today. Ralls I feel was probably our best player followed closely by Vaulks.

Junior looks like its over for him. Lost possesion loads of times and unable to beat a man.
Not the only one.
Bacuna shocking ball to give away.
Nelson, what was he doing for their second goal , checking his new contract ?
2 players needed Asap , a number 10 and a winger who can beat a man.

I don't understand why sign Moore and then keep glatzel. If the target man approach isn't working, you can't change it now, you just bring on another target man. Makes no sense.

If we are playing with a target man like Moore, who no offence is useless with the ball at his feet, you need wingers who have pace and are direct to whip crosses into the box for him. So I don't get why he plays hoilet as a winger, his legs have gone and would be more suited to a number 9 if the target man isn't working or a number 10 whilst tomlin is out

I said as soon as we signed moore we need to learn to cross a ball holliet 9 times out of 10 cuts in and we have lost lang
so 2 stikers over 6ft6 and no service no wonder tomlin was top scorer but to me midfield are 3 number eights vaulks bacuna and ralls if tomlin does' nt play we look poor.

We are a Cinderella club “Always playing at it”

The club will stay like this until VT and the board make up their minds on what they want.

Something is amiss when you only need to look at Sheff Utd and a few other clubs who make good acquisitions in the transfer windows.

Maybe being involved with 3 other clubs has meant VT and the board have taken their eye off the prize?

If we are not careful we will always be a Cinderella club destined not to go to the ball!

Shocking, we played like a pub team. No guts, no desire, no class, and no talent.

You have to worry for the future if that was our best team selection.
Edmund: Have you ever been to Wales, Baldrick?
Baldrick: No, but I've often thought that I'd like to.
Edmund: Well don't. It's a ghastly place. Huge gangs of tough, sinewy men roam the valleys terrifying people with their close-harmony singing

Yes bad performance second half....yes rubbish at Northampton but I ain’t gonna slaughter the players after one game....
I believe we are good enough for top 6 but do need a creative midfielder....hope the Etheridge/ NML money is used wisely

Very poor.

Most frustrating was the lack of work rate.

But it's the first game of the season so I'm not going to make a knee-jerk reaction.

But everyone knows that we have to improve a great deal by next week.

seems to be lots of no guts..no effort...lack luster.... we had the ball for 2/3 rds of the game.. it wasnt just given to us by our fairy god mother.. so players were working much harder than given credit for., it wasnt that they were uncompetitive but more what we were trying to do once we had the ball... these players do not suit this possession game we failed to play properly today... he either needs a few new players or needs to find a system to suit what he has..

Football is a simple game really. You create space to receive a pass, the pass is accurate and at the right pace, you cross from the byline to your no 9 or to incoming midfielders or you pass it forward from infield for a striker to run onto (Tomlin at Bristol for Ward eg)

And defensively you mark your opponent in open and set plays. In possession you pass accurately to your play makers.

And central midfielders tackle and prevent opponents space and in possession drive forwards not sideways and backwards to create openings for both the forwards and widemen.

Unfortunately many of city’s squad just don’t have the basic skills and very few would be classed as good footballers.

Amazed after the play-off defeats - On here good hopes for this season - A few players bought in and a few gone .

Have other clubs had a longer break than us ?? It's the 1st game of the season ( Not a good result ) .

Yes Harris has said the squad is good enough, but it's still hardly his ;) yes he's brought 3 in,but we have had two leave at the same time, plus a couple have also moved on,my concern is ,is the mendez laing affair having an effect on the players??
Also I am all for playing young players, but only if they add to what we have, the championship will make one or two youngsters shine, while it can murder some who don't ,it's the toughest division in my eyes, long and tough games every week.
Heard Chelsea are thinking of loaning out Hudson odoi? Worth a punt? :old: :old: :bluebird:

or..its 90% of goals are scored within 2 passes or less..so you want to be playing in your opponents area ..
