For those expecting a vaccine cure to save the day?
The government's scientific advisers, say that some people "may" get a vaccine this year and mass vaccination "may" start early next year......"Even when the vaccine is available it doesn't mean within a month everybody is going to be vaccinated, we're talking about six months, nine months... a year," said Prof Nilay Shah, head of chemical engineering at Imperial College London.....There's not a question of life suddenly returning to normal in March." :o

MP Margaret Ferrier's Covid Parliament trip 'indefensible'

Scotland's first minister says the actions of an SNP MP who travelled to Westminster despite experiencing Covid symptoms are "utterly indefensible".

Margaret Ferrier said she made the journey because she was feeling "much better" - but also returned home after getting a positive test result.

The MP, who has been suspended by her party, said there was "no excuse for my actions".

Nicola Sturgeon tweeted her support for the decision to suspend the MP.

She said: "This is utterly indefensible. It's hard to express just how angry I feel on behalf of people across the country making hard sacrifices every day to help beat Covid.

"The rules apply to everyone and they're in place to keep people safe. @Ianblackford_MP is right to suspend the whip."

One of Ms Ferrier's former SNP colleagues, Glasgow East MP David Linden, has also said she "should resign" as an MP.

He was speaking during the recording of tonight's BBC Question Time programme.

Trump taken to hospital after testing positive

US President Donald Trump has been taken to hospital less than 24 hours after testing positive for coronavirus.

Mr Trump began exhibiting "mild symptoms" of Covid-19 on Thursday after disclosing that he and his wife had gone into quarantine late Wednesday.

He received a cocktail of drugs as a "precautionary measure", the White House said, and was feeling "fatigued but in good spirits".

He was transported to Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre.

A White House spokesperson said in a statement: "President Trump remains in good spirits, has mild symptoms, and has been working throughout the day.

"Out of an abundance of caution, and at the recommendation of his physician and medical experts, the president will be working from the presidential offices at Walter Reed for the next few days.

"President Trump appreciates the outpouring of support for both he and the first lady."

Covid: UK announces more than 10,000 daily cases for first time -

The UK has announced more than 10,000 daily coronavirus cases for the first time since mass testing began.

There were 12,872 new cases, while a further 49 people have died within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

However, the government said a technical issue meant previously-unannounced cases from the past week had been added to the day's total.

It comes after data released this week suggested infections may be increasing more slowly than in previous weeks.

This data was based on weekly testing among a sample of people in the community to get an idea of how many people in England have the virus at any time.

Was referring to Wales did say awhile ago there was a million missing out on diagnosis and treatment! Routine Orthopaedic surgery not starting for awhile in Cardiff every month its delayed means longer waiting list... make no mistake more people will die waiting for delayed treatment than will ever die of covid 19.... now hospitals are waiting for something that may not happen regarding covid whilst still running extremely restricted outpatient dept.... I've been 5 wks waiting for a heart scan with no time scale for it to be done.. :o

People dont realise the state of waiting lists or outpatient appointments... in fact people are scared to go to hospital when have opportunity to do so ... when covid is basically over then you'll see panic come in as wont get appointment for a year or more..

Covid: Things 'bumpy to Christmas and beyond' - PM

Boris Johnson has warned it may be "bumpy through to Christmas" and beyond as the UK deals with coronavirus.

Speaking to the BBC's Andrew Marr, the PM said there was "hope" in beating Covid, but called on the public to "act fearlessly but with common sense".

He said the government was taking a "balanced" approach between saving lives and protecting the economy.

His comments come as the UK announced more than 10,000 new cases for the first time since mass testing began.

There were 12,872 new cases announced on Saturday. However, the government said a technical issue meant some cases earlier in the week were not recorded at the time so had been included in Saturday's data.

Covid: 16,000 coronavirus cases missed in daily figures after IT error - BBC News

PA Media A test centre
A technical glitch that meant nearly 16,000 cases of coronavirus went unreported has delayed efforts to trace contacts of people who tested positive.

Public Health England said 15,841 cases between 25 September and 2 October were left out of the UK daily case figures.

They were then added in to reach Saturday's figure of 12,872 new cases and Sunday's 22,961 figure

Covid: Investigation launched into coronavirus test error

An investigation is under way after nearly 16,000 coronavirus cases went unreported in England, delaying contact tracing efforts.

Downing Street said there was a "technical issue" when positive test results were transferred from labs to central dashboards.

Public Health England said 15,841 cases between 25 September and 2 October were left out of the UK daily case figures.

Those who tested positive were informed - but their close contacts were not.

Experts advise that ideally contacts should be tracked down within 48 hours.

The issue has been fixed, PHE said, with outstanding cases passed on to tracers by 01:00 BST on Saturday.

On Monday afternoon, the government's coronavirus dashboard said that there had been a further 12,594 lab-confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, bringing the total number of cases in the UK to 515,571.

Covid in Wales: How many cases and deaths have there been?

A further 10 people have died and 425 people have tested positive for coronavirus, Public Health Wales (PHW) said on Tuesday.

It means a total of 1,640 people in Wales have died with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic.

The new cases take the total of people to test positive in Wales to 26,872.

The total number of people tested in Wales is 565,982, with 539,110 testing negative. It said 10,204 tests were carried out on Monday.

Of the new cases, there were 44 in Cardiff, 40 in Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wrexham and Flintshire and 33 in Swansea.

There were 14 in Neath Port Talbot, 19 in Bridgend, 21 in Gwynedd, 16 in Denbighshire, 10 in Conwy and Blaenau Gwent.

Other counties reported fewer than 10 cases, and 103 cases were resident outside Wales - which is partly explained by students seeking tests in the towns where they are now studying, Public Health Wales said.

Fifteen of Wales' 22 counties have seen local lockdown restrictions put in place affecting more than two million people.

This is a virus......NO GOVERNMENT wlll be able to control it. The only thing a GOVERNMENT can control is it's people.......assuming they give CONSENT!

Influenza now, and always will, kills more people than this virus. Why can people not SEE this?

Don't be wreckless but for God's sake please KEEP YOUR FREEDOM. We are like lemmings walking off a cliff!

Covid: Pubs and restaurants in central Scotland to close

All pubs and restaurants across central Scotland are to be closed under new measures aimed at tackling a surge in coronavirus cases.

The new rules will apply to licensed premises across the central belt, including Glasgow and Edinburgh.

Pubs and restaurants will be able to open in other parts of Scotland - but can only serve alcohol outdoors.

The new rules, which will be in force from 18:00 on Friday until 25 October, apply to about 3.4 million people.

They cover people living in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde, Lanarkshire, Forth Valley, Lothian and Ayrshire and Arran health board areas.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the restrictions were "intended to be short, sharp action to arrest a worrying increase in infection".

She warned that without taking action, the country risks "returning to the peak level of infection by the end of the month".

But she admitted that the new rules would be disruptive to many businesses and would be unwelcome to many people.
