‘ £500,000 ‘

Postby Forever Blue » Sat Oct 17, 2020 7:21 am

The fee on keeper Dillon Phillips is at least £500k, rising on matches and promotion. Cardiff didn't have confidence in Day ever improving from being his current standard, in what I am led to believe.

Apparently in training a lot of mistakes.

City have monitored Dillon Phillips for months and that’s why they have given him a 3yr contract and they believe they have now two good first team goalkeepers :thumbright: :bluebird:

He must know he's on the Bench waiting for Smithies to get injured because form wise theres nothing in this league capable of moving him at the moment. But a cheaper option than Etheridge.

Day in the last year of his contract as well.

Planning long term which is good to see.

Also league 1 and 2 now have salary caps, which helps when purchasing players from the lower leagues.

I don't think Day has recovered from substituting Etheridge on the opening day last season. If I recall right he let in 3 goals within a short period. We have seen nothing of him since then.

Confidence is key with any players but none more so than a keeper

He must be shot right now, as the implications seem obvious; but I hope he turns it around

Not sure why people have to back a player just because he plays for us.
Its plain to see hes just not good enough . He gave it a go and it didn't work out. Happens to a lot of people.
He needs to drop back down to league 2 or conference now and have a decent career at his true level

Unfortunately for him, he signed when we had arguably two of the better keepers in the championship and the injury to Etheridge stopped Smithies from going to Brum.

Hell probably go out on loan in January and then be released in the summer if he's in his last year of his contract.

Surprised we didn’t let Day go out on loan as we don’t need three senior keepers as we need to develop George Radcliffe and you can always have an emergency loan keeper if you have injuries!

How many times you seen him play, then...? :?

I didn't say I backed him; I simply said it's clear his confidence is 'shot' and I hope he sorts it out, as it is his career (not just at Cardiff City FC) on the line

I've seen it in my own work environment and it's not nice for anyone involved; but with careful handling and mentoring, people can and will surprise and it can be turned around :thumbright:

A very good business deal, £500,000 is a good price for a goalkeeper of his quality.

He had the highest save percentage in the Championship last season. Charlton only let him go because they knew he wouldn't sign a new contract and they didn't want to risk losing him for nothing.

Obviously, Smithies is number one but crucial for him to have proper competition.

When you have one good goalkeeper but the rest are some way off, that is when the first choice makes mistakes.

A good keeper,so its even better to have a keeper who can step up if required.
