How do we line-up now

Postby thomasblue » Sat Oct 17, 2020 6:46 am

A lot of players have left but most were bench warmers or kids so no first 11 players are really gone in this window whilst we've added possibly 3 quality players.

It will be Interesting to see how Harris lines them up to make us stronger on the pitch as I see no point in signing Wilson if we have to drop Tomlin for him. Harris needs to find a way of getting them both in the side as they will make the difference.

The only way i see us getting our best players on the pitch without them being out of position is with a 4231 formation

Smithies

Bennett
Morrison
Benkovic
Tutu

Ralls
Vaulks

Murphy
Tomlin
Wilson

Moore

Or will he play Wilson up front with Moore to have a big man little man front two in a 352 formation which would make us more solid in midfield but possibly lose our wingers or full backs

Smithies

Morrison
Nelson / Bamba
Benkovic

Ralls
Vaulks
Pack
Bacuna

Tomlin

Harris
Moore

Whichever way you look at the squad now , Harris has a lot more options than he had before and the squad looks very well balanced.

Think you meant Wilson not Harris up top :

Or will he play Tutu and Bennett wide in your formation as genuine wing backs with Bacuna in middle with Ralls instead of Vaulks and Pack ?

I get the feeling that Wilson and Tomlin won't start together. Tomlin is probably not capable of 90 minutes and Wilson frequently gets subbed in games I have seen him play at around the 70 minute mark, so Wilson to start with Tomlin for the last 20? I can't see Benkovic coming to be a bench warmer so expect him to start too.

I was speaking with my son about where these signings will fit in our style of play, and I have to admit, I have no idea what formation we will play now - I guess we have to wait and see, but it does give us some great options and should produce a more fluid system.

Someone mentioned...Nelson could slot in at rt back allowing tutsu to play further forward or to cover him if injured
if so that would give us the cover at rt back we needed

it would also allow Harris to field a back 3 ..i think Hoillet will be used sparingly now

I think Harris prefers Bacuna to Vaulks and Pack seem to be back in favour and played well at Blackburn...but i think we have strength in depth now.

I see the team for Sunday as

Smithies
tutsu Morrison Nelson Bennett/Cunningham
Pack Bacuna
Wilson
Hoillet Moore Ojo

Subs
Phillips
Benkovic
Glatzel
Ralls if fit
Vaulks
Tomlin
Murphy

I definately can see a back 3 , the guy from leicester would not have been allowed to leave to warm the bench.

I still can’t believe supporters think Murphy should be anywhere near the starting 11 baffles me.

He may be off form but he is by far the best winger at this club .

He needs to play and find his form

Sorry mate but the way I’m reading this you’re contradicting yourself. Maybe me tho. Are you saying it’s potentially a good attacking line up that we won’t utilise because of long ball tactics?

No I'm saying that line up is very similar to what we had so far this season so the style and for won't change much . He has the opportunity to really shake it up with fresh players and styles but I doubt he will

How is Murphy are best winger? Since he has came here I cannot remember more than a handful of games when you could say he was any better than 6/10. If we want promotion you are not going to play him just to get form.

This is the team I would pick too. I don't want to see Benkovic on the bench, he's simply too good a player to not start with. Some in this thread have included Marlon Pack in the starting XI, we have had a good transfer window, starting Pack wouldn't reflect that. Any quick counter breaks started from the likes of Benkovic and Tutu, in particular, will soon be nullified when the ball reaches Pack's feet, he slows everything down.

He’s been possibly our best player over last 2-3 games mate.

Good v Newcastle in first home game in prem but can’t think of one other game that he stood out.

So is it the fact hes just not very good or is it that the style of this team has not suited him ?

I would say the latter because he has shown glimpses of the quality he has but its just not consistent enough

Maybe now we are playing a bit more football on the ground he will improve.
Long ball chasing and defensive duties are obvious not ideal for him .

11goals in 58 games for us shows he’s a much better player than many of his critics believe. He is a confidence player and desperately needs a run of games in the team!

First, I think you have to look at those who will always start when they are fully fit.

I think those that fall into that category are Smithies, Morrison, Bennett, Ralls, Wilson, Tomlin and Moore.

So with the four remaining places I would go with the below.

I strongly believe that Curtis Nelson will be used as a right back going forward.

When everyone is fully fit:

Smithies

Nelson
Morrison
Benkovic
Bennett

Ralls
Pack

Tomlin
Murphy
Wilson

Moore
