About Preston North End

Preston North End Football Club (often shortened to The North End or PNE) is a professional football club in Preston, Lancashire, whose team currently plays in the EFL Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Originally a cricket club, Preston has been based at Deepdale since 1875. The club first took up football in 1878 as a winter fitness activity and decided to focus on it in May 1880, when the football club was officially founded. Deepdale is now football's oldest ground in terms of continuous use by a major league club.

Preston North End was a founder member of the Football League in 1888. In the 1888–89 season, the team won both the inaugural league championship and the FA Cup, the latter without conceding a goal. They were the first team to achieve the "Double" in English football and, as they were unbeaten in all matches, are remembered as "The Invincibles". Preston won the league championship again in 1889–90 but their only major success since then has been their 1938 FA Cup Final victory over Huddersfield Town. The club's most famous players have been Tom Finney and Bill Shankly, who are both commemorated at Deepdale by stands named after them. Other notable players include Tommy Docherty, Alan Kelly Sr. and Graham Alexander.

Until 1961, Preston were usually members of the First Division but, having been relegated after the 1960–61 season, they have not yet returned to the top flight. They were first relegated to the Third Division after the 1969–70 season and have spent 28 of the 49 seasons since 1970 in the bottom two divisions, including a span of 19 seasons from 1981-1982 to 1999–2000. Preston has faced serious financial issues and was twice in danger of closure. The club is now owned by businessman Trevor Hemmings and has been established in the EFL Championship since gaining promotion in 2015.

I was confident last night

Now I've seen the teamsheet i see nothing but a loss. I expect we will go a couple of goals behind then he will eventually make changes .

Hopefully I'm wrong

Could Pack not hit the corner any slower than that without breaking the laws of physics.

An okay start from City with neither side really hitting the ground running

Preston though, have a free-kick in an awkward position to the left of the 'D' but thankfully the execution is less than decent and the ball careers into the City wall

Current: Preston NE 0 - 0 Cardiff City

Same old

Tip tap around pack who passes it to morrison who hits it long to Moore

Lose the ball, win it back and repeat

Poor football with very little idea how to break Preston down

Is ojo even on the pitch?

It's like painting by numbers so far; safety first and the ensuing pattern predictable :(

Not getting why Ralls is playing in that position ? Surely Vaulks offers more going forward ?

Bloody relief that Bennett isn’t going anywhere after watching Cunningham for 25 mins ! He’s a real worry !

Ojo should be hitting the touchline and pulling the ball back across goal instead of cutting back in on his left foot. Killed the play.

City being outmuscled
We need to take the full backs on more - make better use of Keiffer.
Usual sh#t ref

We look comfortable on the ball and have probably shaded things so far, but it's been far from spectacular.

You can't say either team have deserved to score a goal by now.

Also Pack is cr@p

Ojo is not a right winger, inverted or not.

Trying to play through the thirds is fine, but it needs to be done greater than snails pace.

No idea where Ralls is playing, he is everywhere without really doing anything

Ojo looks poor. Slow decision making and looks like he’s only jogging up the pitch. Pack looks good though, impressed by him

He is far too slow both physically and footballing focus. He is great at holding onto the ball and that's the problem, he holds it too long

Impressed with Osei-Tutu so far, looks very good on the ball and defensively.

Could disagree more, think he's comfortably been our best player again so far.

He seems to be everybody's favourite scapegoat though.

Just shows how we all have different opinions. I think pack had been excellent today. OJO on the other hand ....

Yet another half complete with only getting one ball into the box from the wide channels from open play and that was by our RB. Our wingers need a kick up the arse and start getting that ball in early. Pack has had a great game in the middle one loose pass but out her than that solid. Osei-Tutu another solid half.

What has he done (or anyone )? He holds onto the ball forever and rarely passes forward, especially greater than 5M's

Great in that he takes the ball and rarely gives it away, so there should be loads of key passes but he never seems to have any.

He slows us down

Re: MATCH THREAD " PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH

The first half comes to a close with Preston slightly having the upper hand, although that is not to say City haven't had their chances since the enforced introduction of Harry Wilson

Some decent performances without really threatening the PNE goal and this is a game where Pack comes into his own, although for me so far the best player has been Tutu at the back

Overall, it's not been a great game and we can only hope for better in the second half

Half-time: Preston NE 0 - 0 Cardiff City :ayatollah:

Before looking at Ojo ask what Hoilett has done mate? He’s been awful.

Re: MATCH THREAD " PRESTON NORTH END v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH

Sun Oct 18, 2020 11:59 am

Hoilett is past it and doesn’t offer anything, ojo is constantly having to come back into his left so we can’t whip a ball in and our crossing is dire - still.

Shame Cunningham went off he was doing well. As for ralls, that’s what he gives us, lots of running and that’s pretty much it, he will do the odd thing.

I would love to see a stat showing where his passes actually go .
I would bet a fortune 80% go to our centre backs . He gets the ball from Nelson takes 2 or 3 touches and passes it to Morrison who either smacks it long or gives it back to Pack who then takes another two touches and passes it back to Nelson who then also smacks it long.

Then we just repeat until we either lose it altogether or our forwards actually win the long ball

When we have vaulks or ralls in that position they turn and look for a forward pass
