Wingers

Sun Oct 18, 2020 3:47 pm

Why do our wingers never try to get to the byline to cross the ball to oncoming forwards? J We play them on the wrong flank with them trying to cut in. But it’s always congested there. At present they are the weakest link in our side.

Hoilett looks like the pace in his legs have gone and would be better suited to moving in field to play behind the striker now

Verdict - Lost his legs

Murphy is the best winger at the club but devoid of any confidence whatsoever , needs a bit of luck and a run of games to find any kind of form

Verdict - Needs a run in the team

Gavin whyte at the moment is league 1 standard and should have gone out on loan to develop before coming back. Hes got all the pace in the world but can't cross a ball, that's if he manages to keep it in play and not overrunning it like normal.

Verdict - Headless chicken

Ojo probably has talent otherwise Liverpool would release him but he looks lazy and doesn't want to put the graft in when he doesn't have the ball. He doesn't try to beat his man and always wants to cut inside to shoot which 9 times out of ten doesn't work.
If Mendez-laing was here Ojo would not be playing.

Verdict - Overated

Wouldn't be so bad if they switched flanks every now and again to mix it up. Defedners know exactly what they are both going to do. Hopefully wilson can do both for us when he's on the wing and not in the no.10 role.

A day to be positive , a day to be smelling fresh flowers and feeling wind on your face. 3 points and the world is wonderful.

What Murphy needs is a club in league one. He will get this elusive run he needs at a level he his capable at.

Agreed.

Why is it that Murphy is the winger that needs more time yet Ojo is overrated, Hoilett past it and Whyte hasn’t got it ?

Murphy has had more than enough chances under a couple of managers over extended periods and simply can’t do anything worthwhile for more than one game in ten.

No doubting his ability but his attitude means he is the least dependable if any of our wide players.

He’s very unlikely to get an extended run with Wilson here now.

We can loan him out in January, nobody will buy him on the contract he’s on.
