Covid vaccine: No guarantees on Pfizer roll-out but NHS ready - Hancock

The NHS will be ready from December to roll out the new coronavirus vaccine if it gets approved, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.

Mr Hancock told MPs the news about the vaccine was an important step but "there are no guarantees".

He also said "we don't know" how many people will need to be vaccinated in order for life to return to normal.

And he announced that, from Tuesday, NHS staff will begin being tested twice a week.

It comes as a further 20,412 coronavirus cases were reported in the UK on Tuesday, with another 532 deaths within 28 days of a positive test recorded.

Tony the figures WG and Westminster use are so unreliable ! As I posted earlier excess deaths are 30k+ between march/July but covid related deaths are 2600 but that doesn't mean actually dying of covid though...
The majority of deaths in Wales ar moment are from people catching covid while in hospital which is scary to say least! Here in pembs only 3 people are in hospital with covid as far as aware so best move here?

Forgot to say the difference in excess deaths and covid is caused by people dying from delayed treatment for cancer heart ect ect......here in Wales as many people have died from excess cancer deaths as have of covid related deaths so the figures for other illnesses must be staggering

I live in the US and we are 10th in the world at deaths per million population.
There are 150+ countries in the world doing better than the US at managing the outbreak.
The UK is not in the top 10.
There is no mass world conspiracy to increase the number of deaths.

The wife's parents tested positive yesterday. They were already in quarantine when they returned early from Colorado last week as her sister they were visiting tested positive after having a halloween party the day before they arrived, genius that she is.

Covid: UK reports jump in daily cases in new record -

A record 33,470 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed in the UK in the past day, official data shows.

It is the highest daily figure since mass testing began in the UK, and brings the total number of cases to more than 1.29 million.

The number of virus tests conducted across the UK has steadily increased in recent weeks.

On Wednesday the UK became the first country in Europe to pass 50,000 Covid deaths.

What's been happening in the UK today?

The R number for the UK has fallen to between 1 and 1.2, the closest it's been to 1 since early September. It comes as the Office for National Statistics suggests the rate at which people are becoming infected with coronavirus in England is stabilising, according to the data up to 6 November

Makes you wonder what the true covid deaths figures are with so many extra deaths from illnesses other than covid are mentioned on death certificates ? And if the tests were accurate at all,many of us wouldn't be questioning these figures,but they are not accurate enough,too many false positives,someone took four tests in one 24hr period,guess what? 2 positive results,and 2 negative!!

surprising how many people are not grasping the vast majority of these positive tests are asymptomatic...its not something thats top secret ..

I hope this comes a.s.a.p.We have seen my father in law who is in a mental health care home twice since March.
It's a f*cking disaster.He's 82 this year.Time is not our side.

2,229 died in the UK last week of the virus

Any vaccine should be given to care home residents first, then the care home staff. This will allow residents to have visitors asap.
It must be heart-breaking for these older vulnerable and mostly lonely people (many with dementia) not to see their families, and for their families not to see them. Just holding their hands (if they don't recognise the family member) is a massive comfort.
I know this is not a nice comment, but as these residents are nearing their end of life time, then there is much less worry of long term effects (if any ) of the vaccines. So there should be no complaints or arguing about the safety of the vaccines, as long as they are administered correctly by a competent person.
