The UK is to close all travel corridors from Monday morning to "protect against the risk of as yet unidentified new strains" of Covid, the PM has said.
Anyone flying into the country from overseas will have to show proof of a negative Covid test before setting off.
It comes as a ban on travellers from South America and Portugal came into force on Friday over concerns about a new variant identified in Brazil.
Boris Johnson said the new rules would be in place until at least 15 February.
A further 1,280 people with coronavirus have died in the UK within 28 days of a positive test, taking the total to 87,291.
The latest government figures on Friday also showed another 55,761 new cases had been reported - up from 48,682 the previous day.
Meanwhile, more than two million people around the world have now died with the virus since the pandemic began, according to figures from Johns Hopkins University.

You heard it here first, but quite frankly it doesn't take a rocket scientist to look behind the veil, "the vaccine isn't working due to the new unfrorseen strains so we have to keep your freedoms curtailed"......please wake up you lovely people.

A vacine does not stop you getting and spreading a virus
It helps you fight it and not become too sick
Everyone who has had the vacine can still catch it and be contagiousCases will not drop purely with thevroleout of the vacine only deaths and hospital admissions will
If people would actually WAKE UP and just help get rid of this then we can all get every freedom back

Yes, but that's what it's all about. Getting COVID and not needing hospitalization is a walk in the park compared to what we have now.

I agree , but people are saying wake up to tell people not to listen to the government and ignore the rules as they are masking some unknown other reason to have a lockdown.
Its pathetic and the main reason we are in this Situation now

In response to your last line, the main reason we are in this position now is because WE, for some strange inexplicable reason, think WE can CONTROL a virus.......we cannot, that is a statement of fact.
My initial point was more aligned to the fact that excuse after excuse will be rolled out for a "valid reason" to curtail our freedom. I just wish you could see the dangerous path of lack of liberties that we are already on. These freedoms will never be given back, history proves this.
