We are very happy to announce that Mick McCarthy has signed a new two-year contract with Cardiff City Football Club until the summer of 2023. Assistant Manager Terry Connor has also committed his future to the Bluebirds until that time.

Having taken over at Cardiff City Stadium in January, Mick and Terry have steered the club to seven wins and three draws from the ten games that have been played under their stewardship. It has been an emphatic upturn in form that has evoked a renewed sense of optimism throughout the club and our fanbase.

Speaking to cardiffcityfc.co.uk on Thursday, Mick said: “TC and I have enjoyed every minute of the time we’ve had at this great club so far and we’re delighted to be staying. I’d like to thank Vincent for offering us the opportunity to do that.

“The players have responded to us over these past ten games in the manner we hoped they would, and it’s a pleasure working with them each day in training. Credit to them for the efforts they’ve put in so far and the results they’ve earned. They’re enjoying it and deservedly so. I’m very much looking forward to the future.”

Tan Sri Vincent Tan said of the news: “Mick and Terry have done a fantastic job over these past two months and I’m thrilled that they will be staying with us longer term.

“Mick is an experienced and respected manager whose work ethic, discipline and honesty I respect and admire. I am confident that he is the right man for our club and the right man to take us forward.

“I’m sure that our supporters are enjoying what they’re seeing from their team again and will echo my sentiments and sincerest best wishes to Mick and Terry.”

Wow that was a surprise! Just picked up my phone to text a mate and saw the news. Well to be fair mick and tc couldn’t have done a better job since they’ve come in so great news. Given the run we’re on the superstitious fan in me didn’t want anything to change but fair play to the board. Great news

May not get into playoffs this season but can be sure we will be challenging top 2 next season with a bit of tinkering with squad.

Of course; and I'm sure he wouldn't have it any other way... :thumbright:

Like Neil Warnock, I actually think he feeds of a certain notoriety and uses it to his advantage! :laughing6:

I had a feeling that this may happen and it's a very wise move given MMs well deserved profile. Good on the club for acting so quickly as it was my concern that someone could have come in for him. Happy days. :ayatollah:

Spot on Chris, the club have acted decisively and all credit to them for that and of course selecting big Mick in the first instance.

I would have thought at least three clubs would have been sounding him out, it's very wise business by the club to commit.

Whatever happens this season, playoffs or not, Big Mick and TC have turned a season that was a total write off as far a I was concerned into a very enjoyable one. Looking forward to seeing what happens next year when they can have a real crack at everything with a full pre season and a couple of new faces. The optimist in me is still dreaming that we clinch a playoff spot and manage to smash the Swans in the final. But either way, Big Mick and TC have brought the buzz back around the club, and other teams are now dreading playing us which is what I want to see. :ayatollah:

Big mistake in my view. If he was signed up to protect the club in getting a fee from another club then that makes sense but if we did go up it will be a huge mistake keeping him in the job. We never learnt from Warnock and should have sacked him when we got promoted. His record shows his level otherwise he would have not been managing Ipswich. It’s easy to get in the bandwagon and say it’s great news but to avoid being a yo yo club we need to have a plan and philosophy for the future.

Blimey - you're a happy chappy aren't you?

In fairness I can understand what you say about Warnock but it would have been exceedingly harsh on him having taken us from where we were when we arrived to the Premier League the next season!

I would actually feel a little more confident of Mick keeping us up if we were to get promoted than Warnock. I'm not sure why I feel that exactly but it's just a feeling that we actually look more solid now than we did when we went up under Warnock and I think the style of play we are slowly developing would give us a better chance of staying up.

So we dont give him a contract then what? Get some young inexperienced manager with dynamic ideas that will garauntee us nothing to learn how to run a championship club the hardest league in world to get out of! That is certainly a gamble with our status in championship undoubtedly..... MM as the knowledge and skills to keep us in premier league if got there certainly more than NW had because NW had history of failure there. Where's MM as been international manager with Ireland .. cannot please some people.
