Lee Tomlin moves to explain tweet on humiliating day for Cardiff City in Sheffield Wednesday hammering

Cardiff City were rocked 5-0 by Sheffield Wednesday in a result which all but ends their Championship play-off hopes

Tomlin who has only made one start this season and 50 plus starts in over three and a half years for the Bluebirds explains why he was tweeting.

Tomlin is currently out injured after standing on a fellow City players ankle in a warm up for the U23's.

Cardiff City's Lee Tomlin says he wants to be "making the difference" after tweeting during the Bluebirds' embarrassing defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

Mick McCarthy's side were already staring down the barrell of a hammering on a nightmare afternoon for the visitors in the Steel City when Tomlin tweeted an emoji showing a monkey with hands over its eyes.

He quickly deleted the tweet after City fans got annoyed with him, but moved to explain the meaning behind it after a few fans appeared to get the wrong end of the stick.

Only just two weeks ago Tomlin was arguing again on twitter with other City fans.

"If fans think I’m having a go in anyway trust me I’m not. I want to be playing making the difference," he said.

He then added: "And the fans that know me,they know how much I want to be playing."

In truth it was a game that cried out for some Tomlin magic.

It was a humiliating afternoon for City at Hillsborough, who shipped five goals in an abject performance lacking virtually everything a McCarthy side prides itself on.

The result all but ended their faint play-off hopes, with six games left to be played of the season.

Tomlin has endured a nightmare campaign with injuries, with the midfielder sidelined for the majority of the season due to a groin problem. He is close to making a first-team return for the Bluebirds, but suffered further frustration last week when he rolled his ankle in the warm-up for an under-23s clash.

McCarthy said at the time: "Lee Tomlin rocked his ankle prior to the under-23s game. It’s nothing major. To be fair to him, he has been working hard, but has been a long way back from the fitness expected by me."

"He was due that other game in the under-23s. It’s sod’s law, in the warm-up he stood on one of our other player’s ankles and it wasn't the other player who got injured - it was him.

"He’s not going to be long. It just puts his training programme back, that's all, and his recovery from his last injuries."

As a very well paid professional player , Tomlin should be be professional and not getting in to arguments or spats with City fans, he should be concentrating on getting fit once again and do his talking on the pitch where it matters. :bluebird:

Its time for Tomlin to sort himself out, always arguing, getting in to off the field tantrums, seems to happen at every club he has played for, just get fit and earn your wages or leave.

Shows he has passion in a way. It’s obvious he cares.

He has severe issues getting it maintaining fitness but you can’t say he doesn’t care

Hes not a car, you need interest from other clubs to sell a player. I doubt there is a queue of clubs lining up to buy a player who has been out with an injury for the majority of the season and is currently struggling with fitness.

Our best bet with Tomlin is that he recovers fitness over the summer and plays a part next season. He is still the most creative player we have and creative midfielders arnt cheap.

Yup. Hopefully he’ll be back fit and we’ll have the player that we had towards the end of last season.
