CCFC TEAM NEWS: :bluebird:

MICK McCARTHY:

Rubin was excellent and he will be involved tomorrow and we have got a few others - Isaak Davies is in the squad, young Kieron (Evans) is in the squad, Sam (Bowen).

Sean Morrison is doubtful.

Max Watters is also a doubt owing to a tight hamstring, while Junior Hoilett also has a similar problem.

Will Vaulks is suspended after his red card against the Chairboys last week, while Joe Bennett, Joel Bagan, Tom Sang and Isaac Vassell are all long-term absentees.

Lee Tomlin is not yet ready, either, while Mick McCarthy branded Sol Bamba's chances of playing again this season "wishful thinking".

Birmingham:

Lee Bowyer will be unable to call up the services of Scott Hogan and Jon Toral, both of whom are ruled out with hip and hamstring injuries respectively

CCFC Injury news :bluebird:

Sean came off with his elbow. That’s proving to be a problem for him. Max Watters has a tight hamstring.

Jordi has got an ankle problem. Will Vaulks is obviously suspended. That’s enough for now!

I’m just looking at the list; Junior Hoilett, Lee Tomlin, Isaac Vassell, Joel Bagan, Joe Bennett, Tom Sang.

And Uncle Tom Cobley and all! There’s plenty there.

Mick McCarthy

McCarthy is asked about giving more first team debuts after Rubin Colwill's recent outing?

Possibly, yeah.

Rubin was excellent and he will be involved tomorrow and we have got a few others - Isaak Davies is in the squad, young Kieron (Evans) is in the squad, Sam (Bowen).

We have a few travelling with us, we have a few injuries, but it was my intention anyway to have some youngsters in the squad anyway.

They’ll be involved now, over the next couple of games. Hopefully they’ll have some game time.

Mick McCarthy

CCFC INJURY UPDATE: :bluebird:

Sean Morrison played v the win over Wycombe but sustained a couple of injuries, so is a doubt?

Tom Sang has been ruled out for the rest of the season after sustaining toe ligament damage against Brentford, meaning Arsenal loanee Jordi Osei-Tutu will end the campaign at right-back.

Mick McCarthy has once again suggested he may give opportunities to academy players, but that is a pledge which is yet to come to fruition.

Joe Bennett and Joel Bagan are both long-term absentees, while it still seems unlikely that Lee Tomlin will play a part in the remainder of the campaign.

Lee Tomlin after over 6 months still not fully fit.

Isaac Vassel is over his injury but not fit yet.

About Birmingham City

Birmingham City Football Club is a professional football club in Birmingham, England. Formed in 1875 as Small Heath Alliance, it was renamed Small Heath in 1888, Birmingham in 1905, and Birmingham City in 1943. Since 2011, the first team have competed in the EFL Championship, the second tier of English football.

As Small Heath, they played in the Football Alliance before becoming founder members and first champions of the Football League Second Division. The most successful period in their history was in the 1950s and early 1960s. They achieved their highest finishing position of sixth in the First Division in the 1955–56 season and reached the 1956 FA Cup Final. Birmingham played in two Inter-Cities Fairs Cup finals, in 1960, as the first English club side to reach a major European final, and again the following year. They won the League Cup in 1963 and again in 2011. Birmingham have played in the top tier of English football for around half of their history: the longest period spent outside the top division, between 1986 and 2002, included two brief spells in the third tier of English football, during which time they won the Football League Trophy twice.

St Andrew's has been their home ground since 1906. They have a long-standing and fierce rivalry with Aston Villa, their nearest neighbours, with whom they play the Second City derby. The club's nickname is Blues, after the colour of their kit, and the fans are known as Bluenoses.

Don't be fooled by Birmingham's league position.

Done very well since Bowyer came in and have some good players. Won't surprise me if they compete for the top six next season.

What's the CCFC team news?

Cardiff City could be without as many as 10 first-team players for the trip to St Andrew's.

The Bluebirds skipper Sean Morrison is a doubt after sustaining an arm injury against Wycombe last weekend, while Jordi Osei-Tutu is suffering with an ankle problem.

It means three untried youngsters will be on the bus to Birmingham.

Academy striker Isaak Davies will travel with the squad. So, too, will tricky winger/playmaker Kieron Evans.

Sam Bowen will also be in the travelling cohort.

Match facts:

Birmingham City have lost one of their last 18 home league games against Cardiff City (W9 D8), a 1-0 defeat on New Year’s Day in 2013.

Cardiff City are looking for their first league double over Birmingham since the 2012-13 season.

Birmingham are unbeaten in their last six league matches (W4 D2), their best run since going 10 without defeat in January/February 2020 under Pep Clotet.

Each of Cardiff’s last four league goals have been scored by Kieffer Moore, with the Welshman netting 20 in the Championship this season. The last Bluebirds player with more was Peter Whittingham in 2009-10 (22).

Cardiff manager Mick McCarthy has only won one of his 15 away league matches against Birmingham (D6 L8), losing his last three in a row.

Hard one to call, nothing at stake for either teams and although Birmingham are in good form it sounds like they'll be playing a less experienced team.

I'll say 1-1 with Morrison scoring from a corner. :ayatollah:

A young Brum XI have made a bright start to the game without really creating anything in the box with the experienced Bluebird defence doing their jobs well...

Then the sucker punch, as a poor out of position error from Birmingham's Mark Roberts sees Harry Wilson curl the ball into the net for the opening goal of the game...
