Breaking: “I was told I was staying at Cardiff “

Postby Forever Blue » Tue Jun 08, 2021 7:49 pm

My View: Wrong who ever made Williams believe that and never explained and it seems that this happens a lot and has been like this for years how unprofessional we still are, But 100% the right decision :thumbright: :bluebird:

Jonny Williams on leaving Cardiff:

‘I was told I was staying so it came as a surprise. At the same time, football doesn’t surprise me.”

“It was disappointing how it panned out because I was excited about the move. Someone’s taken the decision so that’s that and I move on.”

“No one has still told me why the club changed their minds?”

“Someone in the club has taken the decision, but not even given me a reason why.”

“I’ve been in the game for 10 years and experienced a lot of ups and downs, so I can take it on the chin and move on.”

“I feel relaxed. It’s never nice being released but I feel good in myself, I feel strong.

“I thought I did well when I got the chance but just didn’t quite get the rub of the green with team selections and stuff.”

“I’m ready to play a part for Wales in any way I can in this tournament. I’m excited."

I think it was the right decision to not give him a new contract.

But it's disgraceful from whoever told him he was staying when he wasn't.

Maybe whoever told him,was being tactile, and didnt want to tell him the truth, that he's not good enough? ( not telling him why he's being released)

So who actually has the power to say to him that he was staying? Dalman? Choo? Or maybe Mick McCarthy, who said (allegedly) that Williams would be a good replacement for a certain Harry Wilson???

MM would have had the final decision sounds a bit funny that he didn’t speak to him to tell him personally?

Perhaps Jonny got the wrong end of the stick, when he signed it id appear was a stop gap squad filling move until the season end , to give him a chance to get game time and fitness in readiness for Euros , Mick facilitated that. He was never a long term signing in my eyes .

Right decision, handled badly.

I suppose that's progress, the club has a recent history of bad decisions, handled badly.

Being blunt JW earned a wage of 2kpw for mostly being injured since January. Maybe he should be grateful for that rather than moaning about not being able to steal a living for a longer period.

Funny I said at the time £50,000 we may as well have burnt the money and what a waste of time, shot down at the time virtually the same ones now having ago at him.

Should never have been signed with his track record.

dont count your chickens... maybe theyve just held back on giving him a new contract until he comes back from the euros in one piece.... Johnny not being on a retained list but then somehow ending up playing for that club is not new.....

That’s a very good point. Can you imagine the furore if JW was given a contract extension, and then came back from the Euro’s with a season long injury???

would be a nuclear type meltdown.... from the players point of view its quite a risk.. for the rest if they get injured and are out for months its the clubs they are contracted too that have to take the financial hit while they still get paid.. if Johnny gets injured its on him.....

Totally agree. Past record. Plays too infrequently.

50k was the rest of his contract not a bad gamble ,in prospective isn't it 2 and half weeks of josh Murphy s pay ? It could of worked out but the games he played he didn't really do it for me and the club were right to not extend his contract

Where did the idea come from that he was the perfect replacement for Wilson? A bit of a difficult rumour to believe. It looks like that was a load of b***ocks.

Yes Annis I remember your reservations about signing JW and you were proved correct.

However, I don't remember there being many MB members who delighted at his signing either. I think the vast majority of us thought the same as you. There might have been the odd poster who thought as his wages were so small and he came on a free that he was worth a punt, but I can't remember there being that many.
