Real Madrid seek to pay-out Bale contract amid non-EU worry

Tuesday 20th July 2021

Real Madrid management are prepared to release Gareth Bale from the final year of his contract.

Sport says discussions have kicked off inside the Real boardroom about Bale and his place in Carlo Ancelotti's squad this new season.

With a year to run on his contract, the big problem for Real is the Wales captain will become a non-EU player this year due to the UK's departure from Europe. Brexit laws will mean Bale must be regarded as a non-EU player by Real Madrid.

Besides Bale, Brazilians Rodrygo, Eder Militao and Vinicius Junior are also non-EU players - and Real can only register three of the four for the LaLiga this season.

As such, paying out Bale's contract is now being discussed given he is not regarded ahead of the Brazilian trio.

Now 32, Bale spent last season on-loan with Tottenham, where he played 34 games and scored 16 goals. The attacker also produced three assists.

They haven’t named the Everton player have they?

No way they can do that.

Not impossible is it? premier league club have suspended a player over such allegations... only problem with bale and city is can u imagine the rush on st sales and club not knowing what capacity they can have until season starts and no staff in office to deal with things " BE CHAOTIC" who said that.. :laughing6:

The Everton rumours have been floating round for a couple days already so I wouldn’t read too much into 247 having excluding info. Likewise the Bale transfer rumour mill has been in overdrive for months.

Got to wonder why it's been written again about him and city? Whats in it for 247 and the other publication yesterday.?

It’s an interesting story that generates clicks and can be semi believable because of his links with Cardiff and Wales. If I’m not mistaken his grandparents still live in Whitchurch?
If he’s not staying at RM and Nuno has said he won’t be coming back to Spurs then the next most interesting club to talk about is Cardiff. “Ageing superstar to finish his career on mega contract in China/Qatar/America” is a done to death story that dozens of high profile players have gone through. “Gareth Bale to take 95% pay cut to play in the Championship” is entirely more interesting.

Even as a worst case scenario, IMO we should offer Madrid say £10m if we get promoted with Bale, as long as they pay his wages on loan. That way they recoup some money (if we're promoted), Gaz is happy and we are happy!

Be crazy not to make an offer if they're not going to pay-up his contract.

That’s actually a decent shout.

Definitely sometimes a news article holds more weight than a tweet but also in a lot of cases articles, especially sports journalism, are written based off of internet rumours because it’s easy clicks. Things like SportBible/LadBible, 90Min, etc. Even large scale news organisations like WalesOnline regularly take all sorts of stories, not just sports, from Reddit, Facebook, Twitter, etc.

Considering everyone and their dog has worked out who the married, 31 year old, Premier League and prominent international footballer, arrested by Greater Manchester Police is, I wouldn’t use 247 being able to name them several days after the rumours started circling as a yardstick for future accurate reporting.
