MY VIEW: I WOULD RATHER BE HONEST & SAY IT AS I REALLY SAW I

Postby Forever Blue » Sun Jan 09, 2022 4:33 pm

MY VIEW / OPINION:
:bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CITY WILL PLAY LIVERPOOL IN THE FA CUP FOURTH ROUND :bluebird:

The Fourth Round will take place between Friday 4th and Monday 7th February 2022, with winning clubs at that stage picking up £90,000 from the competition prize fund.

:bluebird: :bluebird:

I WOULD RATHER BE HONEST & SAY IT AS I REALLY SAW IT, TODAY WAS DIRE & BORING.

STEVE MORISON FIELDED QUITE A FEW OF OUR YOUNGER PLAYERS / SOME PLAYED WELL / A FEW OTHERS FIR ME SHOWS ONCE AGAIN NOT CHAMPIONSHIP STANDARD. :bluebird: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

We are all entitled to our views:

MASSIVE PLUS SIDE:

PLUS SIDE: :bluebird:

We did all manage to see 7 of our players that some say are our future, I still say 3 at best are Championship standard and if you listen to Morison he is saying virtually the same.

PLUS WE WON & THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND IF THE CUP, WHERE MANY OF THESE PLAYERS WILL PROBABLY BE FUVEN ANOTHER CHANCE TO PROVE THEMSELVES :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

We won at home

The game over all was quite dire and no real action and excitement, perhaps due to no crowd being their.

Two struggling Championship clubs playing in the Cup today and it showed.

Steve Morison has been criticised for not playing them the last 6 weeks, but he insists it’s a massive jump for them and a couple have not been good enough.

But this was a chance for many of them to stake their claim and prove Morison wrong and Morison has been saying it’s a big jump for many of these 19,20,21 & 22 yr olds.

During the game at least 7 of them were given their chance.

So today was their chance to shine.

Preston also made 4 changes.

Isaak Davies missed a couple of good chances but then scored a very good goal

For me Ciaron Brown once again not good enough.

Bagan, put a good shift in and gave his all, but No where near the quality of Giles.
Need to see more of Bagan.
:bluebird:

Colwill, not one if his best games.

Harris, Evans, Sang etc all had some time out their.

Mark Harris scored and is still fighting to prove his doubters wrong.

FAC CUP 3RD RD
:bluebird:
CARDIFF CITY 2 PRESTON 1 :bluebird:
H-T 1-0

Isaak Davies & Mark Harris scored. :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff City: Phillips; Morrison (c), Nelson, Brown; Bagan, Ng; Pack, Vaulks; Colwill, Collins, Davies

Subs: Ratcliffe, McGuinness, Flint, Wintle, Sang, King, Patten, Evans, Harris

The 120 mins did give Morison a good chance to see plenty of our players be given their chance to impress or not impress him :thumbright:

And now another Cup game again

Totally agree. Awful game but delighted to take a win. The extra money is much needed. On the young players Brown and Bagan have no future at the club at Championship level. Both have such poor distribution and can't defend well either. But its not the youngsters reserved for criticism. Will Vaulks is simply terrible now and must be released. Encouraging cameo performances by Wintle and Sang. Wintle just keeps it simple, I like it.

Dreadful game and Preston should have had a penalty at the end to probably draw the game. Thought all the youngsters did quite well. I don’t count Ciaron Brown as a youngster. Bagan did ok for me. Not as good as Giles but still might be a decent championship player.

Cowill apart why are our youngsters so pint sized are they not feeding you properly back in Wales?

Media Wales:

Learnt a little more about Cardiff's future players today:

I think. Bagan good defensively but could improve at the top end, Brown disappointing, Evans a couple of bright flickers, Davies & Colwill blew hot & cold in the extreme, Sang good in central midfield, Wintle tidy enough.

Neither side managed another shot on target in a poor second half, but Iversen produced a fabulous save to deny Harris in the first half of the extra period.

Preston are a solid yardstick and excel at the things our kids can't deal with yet, physicality. It was a game devoid of quality, but thats been us since DJ left

I don't believe Steve Morison is anywhere near ready for a championship club, but we didn't have time to mess around.

We are what we are.

Crap match but good for the team to get some proper game time after only 1.5 matches in the last month (the second half at Bournemouth was basically a training routine). A win is a win and now we get a decent chunk of cash from gate receipts as well as, almost certainly, TV money.

Klopp doesn’t care about cups and they’ve got Leicester and CL games in the week following our match so maybe he’ll play the kids and we can sneak a win :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

Nothing there today to get excited about. In fact I would say those players we have been hoping for better things showed to me they will struggle to much as we come to the business end of the season.

Fortunately Preston were as poor as any team we have met this season. They had a reasonable team out but failed everywhere. Their fans must be concerned more than us.

Agree on the whole; but Wintle new (agqin) to the ream/squad and looked like he was looking to make passes to where his team mates weren't. Hopefully, that will change for the better, as they all get used to one another

I think everyones being a bit harsh again. This is a season of transition thrust upon us by poor decisions and transfers made in previous seasons and due to the tragic Sala case hanging over us. You can also add Micks vision for a team with no width whatsoever and a falling out with Tomlin who ironically would have thrived in this new setup.
The youngsters are just that, youngsters....Davies, Evans, Sang, Colwill, Patten, Zimba, Bagan...they will all make mistakes but as they have all come through together those mistakes are more frequent but we need to back them and be thankful that they are at least trying to play better football and get us to safety in the league.
This season has become about survival to give us something to build on in the summer when the high earners go, if we survive it's mission accomplished because the odds are against us with zero money and some of our high earners letting us down and players like Vassell milking us dry. We won today, enjoy it, it wasn't like watching Brazil in their prime no but we won....with kids and now have a financially beneficial "glamour" tie in the next round. Those miserable gits on Facebook can moan it's crap etc but so what, we are in survival mode so get behind the team and stop moaning even when we win.

Dire game but at least the right result for us which is the most important thing in our current predicament.

Whilst I could comment on a few players I will just limit it to two:

SEAN MORRISON - Been a fantastic servant but has difficulty in lifting both legs to run - never been pacey but now either he don't care anymore or today's performance clearly showed his Championship first team career is over. Teams are concentrating on his pace weakness now (Scott Sinclair worked several one n one with Morrison and we were lucky to get away with it several times tonight).

MARK HARRIS - For me this lad is not the biggest or most physically powerful forward but he has two vital ingredients that the best strikers have - pace and he can finish. Vardy, Lineker, Salah are sufficient evidence that top strikers don't have to be 14st and 6'4"! We need to let this lad mature and I'm certain he will be a 20 goal per season striker for us in the future.

Everyone wants the youngsters to do well, I have always been a big fan of them, but you also have to be realistic the majority have been thrown in the first team squad and even our manager who trained them has totally honest.
Many of them will end up in League 1 & 2 and only playing now because we are skint.

We are in a relegation battle due to the quality of our squad getting weaker every season.

League tables don’t lie and even Steve Morison said that two weeks ago.

Also half of them came through other clubs academies.

That word transition has been used now for the last few years and is becoming boring.

If just two make it as good Championship players then that alone is success :thumbright:

Glad it wasn't just me that thought this was an appalling performance, from a bunch of players brought in/through by a 'committee' that knows nothing about football, and that refuses to spend another penny saving our once great club.

Oh, and whoever said Harris was a potential 20 goal a season striker and compared him to Vardy and Salah???. I'll just let you think about what you just said....

Jonny,

Of course it looks great to see 10 players from the U23 team, But the truth is , many are their because of years of the club being run badly we are totally skint and we can’t rely on these 19,20,21 &22 year olds to keep us in the Championship and Steve Morison totally agrees.

Our league table position tells the truth and we will battle till at least April to stay up.

This was a brilliant exciting today for them v Preston and they do need more games like that to see who will make it.

If two make it, then that is success, but the Committee threw them all in, no matter what and if you notice Morison has not even been starting one of them lately, and before one or two.

I want them all to do well, but that’s not reality.

Brown, Bagan, Colwill & Davies started

Ratcliffe, Sang, King, Patten, Evans & Harris were on the bench.

Don't get me wrong, as much as it will surprise people on this board, I'd also like to see the youngsters doing well

However for me, Davies was the only one I thought might make it. Now, Even he is struggling with the rigours of Championship football.

I would have a little respect for those on charge of the club if they came out and said, they are not the quality we seek, but we are having to give them an opportunity as cannot afford anything else.

Moreso, I'd have respect if they didn't treat us like idiots and actually came out and told the supporters exactly what is happening, their plans for our future and on what they base their plans. Including that they would be prepared to sell if they can neither handle running a club or afford to run a club.

I don’t disagree with many of the comments on here……BUT why are we saying ‘an appalling display’ and questioning whether the youngsters are up to City team (the Championship) standard.
In reality at least we played some of them and we won a very poor game. Most times this season we have lost in very poor games!. I would ask if they (or at least some of them) are as good or better than what we have? And some of them are as good or better!
For example if we Look at the spine of the team today. Morrison Pack and Collins those players are very limited and don’t set a high bar (although Morrison has been a good servant for us). Certainly I am not confident of staying up if they play each week.
Turning to the youngsters, at least they scored the goals and the younger ones in midfield did ok when they came on.
Conclusion:
In reality, it looked like two pretty poor teams but we were at least as good as Preston and we played some youngsters. :bluebird:

Happy for Mark Harris today. Felt he needed to score one in a clutch moment, he's tended to score in Cardiff routs, and they don't get more clutch than deep into extra-time of an FA Cup tie. Let's hope he can finally kick on from that, could be an important moment for him, as I feel this could be his final season if he is to make it.

All of our youngsters would benefit from a creative player in the middle of the park.

I think you'll see many improved performances from the youngsters then.

Without a creative player who can pick a pass and retain possession, the youngsters inexperience is overly exposed.

It's too much pressure on them.

Agree that it wasn’t a great game, that’s obvious.

But, at least we got a win and, actually, when you analyse the game Preston didn’t create much of a problem for us and our keeper hardly had to make a save.

Even though we started poorly our shape gradually improved and we got into it.

I just think we have to learn to play with Colwill. There was a spell of about 25 mins at the end of the 1st half where everything started going through him and we looked much more of a threat.

Of the other youngsters I don’t rate Brown and, unlike earlier posters, I worry about Bagan. He’s often out of position defensively, although his recovery is good, and attacking wise his delivery and decision making were really poor.

My biggest worry is that he’s making the same mistakes now that he was last season. I hope he proves me wrong but at the moment he’s nowhere near first team quality.

Davies, Harris, Evans and Sang all did well so plenty of room for optimism but I wouldn’t expect all of these youngsters on the pitch together in the league for a while yet. It will be a case of gradual introduction I would suggest.
