Preston boss Ryan Lowe said:

"We played well in spells, but we didn't have the finishing edge and paid the price with four minutes to go.

"It should have finished 1-1 and gone into penalties.”

"We had dealt with their long balls really well all game, but we lacked concentration and got caught out.

"It would have been nice to have made the next round but we are not going to win the FA Cup so it's back to Championship football and trying to stay up.”

Yeh and he knows the rules of the competition before the game started. Sour grapes.

Long balls??

Every manager that comes here is a walking cliche. Not a great performance but hardly a long ball game and neither goal came from one.

Very true. We're hardly the best exponent of the passing game but we've come a helluva long way from the hoofball days. Not yet that pleasing on the eye but a long ball game it most definitely is not.

If people think we play a lot of long balls under Morison, they must have been on Mars when McCarthy was our manager.

Crikey.

Or, he is just being lazy and trying to detract from his own teams inept performance which in reality was tepid and low quality affair.

It’s complete laziness. I’d like to see the passing stats on the game, but can’t find the site that breaks it down. We had more possession, more shots and more corners.

On MOTD last night they praised the ‘premier league’ quality of the Shrewsbury goal and talked about how they played it out from the back. It was one long diagonal ball from in their own half to a winger, who got the cross in and the striker met it on the half volley.

It was a great goal, but two passes back to front - like to have seen how they described it we had scored that!!
