No disrespect to Oxford but you can't compare both clubs, apart from the lunatics (not) running it.
Mark Harris would look like Harland compared to what we've seen since he left. If I were Tan and the look at an ex-academy player suddenly looking like a championship player then I'd find the bloke responsible to see if he can do even better with the five or 6 we have coming through
Wasn’t interviewed for wales job.
Harris had part of a season playing for Manning before Des but a lot of it is on Harris as well.
He got to sign 15 players for Oxford. Youngsters with pace and skill who fit a style of football he is implementing. New stadium in two years. He’s an Oxford fan. Being paid well.

I would like to see us head hunt a manager for a change, rather than appoint some of the scraps we have in the past.
The last manager who did really well at another club and we had to stump up some compo was Malky Mackay from Watford.
It would show the club has some ambition to go beyond the ones who hand in a CV.
A sporting director with a proven track record would also save Tan millions but that will never happen.

I don't think that our club has any more pull than other mid sized championship clubs. Oxford is not a mid-sized championship club though, and by now the other championship clubs have analyzed them to death and it will get tougher, Bulut had no answer when the how to stop Cardiff blueprint was known.
If i were Buckingham i wouldn't move either. Cardiff may be a massive pull when you are not drawing a salary but you need to see out the project if its yours and its going well. I also doubt Tan will pay compensation.
I'd be amazed if we are offering anything but an end-of-season deal, so some of those names won't fancy that especially if they are still getting paid from their former club.
I can't help but think Warnock will be back for a short period

Malky didn’t do great at Watford really. Did alright with us first season then got given millions and millions. Can’t deny that he took us up as champions but when we went up we were very much out of our depth despite being the 5th spenders that pre-season and the two teams we went up with out performed us.

Got us promoted as champions, was never in the relegation zone in the prem and was a pen away from beating Liverpool in the league cup final. I'd take that right now!
He saved Watford from relegation with a poor team which is why we went for him and paid compo.
Just making the point I'd like to see us go for a manager who's doing well for change, not one who's just been sacked.

I daresay there will be many out of work managers thinking Cardiff would be a good job. Potter is not someone we could entice in a million years though.
I couldn’t see a manager at any championship club coming to Cardiff, we wouldn’t get half the managers in league one either. Definitely not the Oxford manager. He’s at a well run club, with fans who support and trust him.

Whilst Cardiff have endured a nightmare start to the campaign, newly promoted Oxford United have enjoyed an excellent opening period, winning three and losing three to leave them sitting ninth and making an early claim for shock play-off contention. That success could now come at a cost, however...
According to Football Insider, Cardiff could move to appoint Des Buckingham from Oxford following their solid start to the campaign, with the 39-year-old seen as a young and progressive manager.
It remains to be seen whether the Bluebirds can convince the Oxford boss to make the switch though. As things stand, pitching a manager to jump a steady ship in favour of attempting to patch one up that looks almost certain to sink in the early stages of the campaign doesn't exactly make for a strong sales pitch in what could be a frustrating blow.
Oxford, meanwhile, will be desperate to keep hold of the manager who brought them up from League One last season, with Head of Recruitment Ed Waldron praising Buckingham from the off. After appointing the young manager last November, Waldron told Oxford's official website: “Des is someone we’ve been monitoring for a while. He’s young, highly regarded and already has a wealth of coaching experience.
“His attacking style of play and philosophy suits the squad we are building and will help this outstanding group of players continue their excellent start to the season.”
Seemingly the type of football that Cardiff now want to see take place in Wales, Buckingham may well be one to keep an eye on.

Why don’t we try and get Phil Foden to sort our attacking issues while we are at it?
Interview with Des recently on Radio Oxford after beating Stoke with a pretty decent attacking performance.
He said “I’m going to lose my job here at some stage, I’m never going to be a manager who sits back and defends. I want my players to have freedom to attack and to do what they need to do to win football matches and that’s score goals.”
Not sure all our fans would take to that if we started losing.
He will leave Oxford one day, but it will to be a bigger and better club than Cardiff and it pains me to write that.
