The Welsh club are seeking their 12th permanent manager in 14 years under Vincent Tan's ownership.

But for now Omer Riza is staying in charge.

Thursday 10th October 2024

Omer Riza is set to continue as manager of Cardiff City for the time being at least.

Riza who has never been a first team league manager before has declared that he wants the managers job full-time.

Cardiff City are prepared to return to action after the international break with interim manager Omer Riza still at the helm.
Riza has been in charge at the Championship club since the dismissal of Erol Bulut last month.
Cardiff are currently sifting through applications for their vacant manager's job with a variety of names touted as possible permanent successors to Bulut.

Former Plymouth and Stoke manager Steven Schumacher, ex-Croatia boss Slaven Bilic, Charlton's Nathan Jones - a boyhood Bluebirds fan - and current Reading manager Ruben Selles have been linked with the role.
But with the process of cutting down the field not yet complete, Riza looks increasingly likely to be in charge after the international break.

Cardiff, propping up the Championship table with just five points, return to league action against Wayne Rooney’s Plymouth Argyle at the Cardiff City Stadium on October 19.

Three days later they entertain Portsmouth in what looks a huge game given that Pompey also have five points and are currently one place above Cardiff on goal difference.

Riza has been at the helm for three games, starting with a 4-1 defeat at Hull City. He oversaw Cardiff’s first league win of the campaign, against Millwall, before last Sunday's 1-1 draw at Bristol City.

Cardiff’s hierarchy must decide whether they want an experienced boss at the helm or a younger coach with potential.
The Welsh club are seeking their 12th permanent manager in 14 years under Vincent Tan's ownership.

Riza has done his reputation no harm during his spell in charge and though things could change in the next few days, time is running out to appoint a permanent successor to Bulut ahead of the Championship's resumption.

Riza, meanwhile, has said on social media, external how grateful he is to have been given a chance to lead Cardiff.

Omer Riza:

“Sacrifices ” are required to succeed, including the fact “people around you miss so much of your time”.

“Hardship and adversity makes us who we are in the relentlessness to be the best for those around us to have the moments they deserve.”

“I am grateful for this opportunity that I have been given by the owner, club, players, staff and fans whatever the outcomes.”

“I hope I am pleasing Mr Tan.”

Not for me get someone with championship experience riza got no experience at this level we need to get this done ASAP

Re: BBC Omer Riza Set to Continue:

This just shows they have no clue what they're doing.

We need a manager with some experience of the league to get us out of this mess.

Bulut was sacked nearly three weeks ago. They have had plenty of time to identify targets and interview them.

If we don't have a manager in place for Plymouth then it will just show them for the amateurs that they are.

I don’t mind waiting Wez, as long as an experienced manager comes in and saves us and takes us up the Table.

The longer Riza is here though, bang goes the talk of Play-Offs.

Riza showed his inexperience when we were battering Bristol City and Winning and Riza Totally Changed Our Formation and Riza himself said he was happy to get the point and he had No regrets.

Even you Blamed Riza and Said it’s all his fault.

We have NO time for Inexperience and experimenting.

Worst Start in Over 100 years and Riza was part of Bulut’s Staff and Says all the same stuff.

The course of action was always going to be the cheapest option. Keep Riza for as long as possible. Don't know how much more of these clown's I can take :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

Re: BBC Omer Riza Set to Continue:

So ‘he has not done his reputation any harm’. Hang on - we lost to a poor Hull team 4 v1 after leading, beat a poor Milwall team at home 1 v 0 and they had 2 cleared off the line and we threw it away against Bristol being well on top when he decided to everyone’s disbelief to change tactics, go defensive, take our best forward off and move the player who is running the game Colwill up top on his own. And he is in charge of our side. Unbelievable.

And he has not MANAGED anyone. So we were also told we would be getting a top agency to scour Europe for someone as well as 2 experienced managers for help and advice. What total rubbish. As for the rubbish spouted by Purse and chesterfield recently regarding our talented under 21’s what planet are they on. Might I remind everyone that Cardiff appointed the latter when he relegated Barry Town to the Welsh League from the Cymru Premier. OMG

Re: BBC Omer Riza Set to Continue:

Said days ago he would stay on .... only problem with this is what happens if lose next two games Back to square one probably,....no we need a new manager and to be given time to get squad sorted.

absolutely shocking decision , they deserve relegation

Re: BBC Omer Riza Set to Continue:

Shocking decision a new manager would give us the shot in the arm needed.

Apathetic at best yet again, they've had more than enough time.

Re: BBC Omer Riza Set to Continue:

Meh, it’s sad how apathetic I am to the whole thing now. Maybe relegation is what we deserve.

While I agree with what everyone has said, what does everyone think of what kyle08 has said lower down about waiting until January for Bilic to be available?

I would imagine the obvious may happen.

He will remain in charge and get a few decent results. Maybe climb the table a few places
We will give him a contract and it'll all go 'pear-shaped' again!
Typical Tan and co. :banghead:

Calm down young monty, I just asked for opinions on what was being said not if he was the messiah. Worth waiting for or not? I personally think we need someone now rather than waiting for anyone.

Obviously he is staying in charge until the next manager comes in, if they haven’t sorted out the new manager yet then I expect he would stay in charge, I’d rather he is not the new full time manager but u til they decide on who it is going to be then the bbc are just stating the obvious.

Its a non story, as it says until and not that he is the next manager - and if they do decide it will be him then they will announce that.

Very succinct. No fence sitting.
I think you're less forgiving and less patient these days! :-)

Did anyone read the article? It’s a persons opinion there is no fact to back it up just thier opinion on observations that nobody has been announced yet.

Pretty sure if this regime are good at anything it’s keeping manager appointments top secret
