Blackburn's perfect home start in the Championship was ended after they were held to a 0-0 draw by West Brom.

Given these sides have identical league records, it was perhaps unsurprising they could not be separated.

They both had their opportunities, with Yuki Ohashi firing wide in the second half for the hosts, who had won all five league games this term at Ewood Park.

The best chances fell the way of Carlos Corberan's side though, as both of their full-backs, Darnell Furlong and Torbjorn Heggem, missed the target within minutes of each other in the first half, and they felt they were denied a penalty when Furlong was seemingly bundled over after the break.

The Baggies are winless in five for the first time under Corberan but he will have been encouraged by a performance against a Blackburn side who have now kept four consecutive clean sheets at home for the first time since March 2023.

Nine players could miss West Bromwich Albion v Cardiff City through injury.

West Brom suffered a new injury blow midweek as central defender Kyle Bartley missed the 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers.

Carlos Corberan revealed post-match that Bartley is working through a flare-up from an existing knee injury. The 33-year-old suffered swelling and soreness after the 1-1 draw at Oxford United - and the symptoms didn’t disappear quickly enough for West Brom’s midweek outing.

Daryl Dike, who has been out since April with an Achilles tendon injury, is edging ever closer to a return and can now be considered a doubt rather than an out. That’s a huge boost for Albion as the American can be utilised when Josh Maja isn’t firing up top.

Mason Holgate is another doubt as the Everton loanee picked up an issue on international duty with Jamaica. The versatile defender felt a twang in his quad and wasn’t risked against Blackburn. It awaits to be seen if he’ll be fit enough to make the bench this weekend.

Cardiff team news vs West Brom -

The Bluebirds have six players potentially unavailable. The clash at The Hawthorns is set to come soon for captain Joe Ralls, who has been sidelined with a leg injury. Former Arsenal star Aaron Ramsey won’t be back from his hamstring issue any time soon, while Kion Etete is back training after a similar problem but isn’t ready to feature.

Japanese centre-back Ryotara Tsunoda remains out following hamstring surgery at the end of last season and forward Isaak Davies (also hamstring) is about three weeks away from action. Finally, young attacker Cian Ashford is a doubt as he’s been suffering from a back ailment recently.

Tbh I sometimes wonder if having these injuries makes a big difference. Providing you have strength in depth you should be able to carry these injuries.

Ramsey would be our high profile name you would think we are missing but how much by? He is not the player he use to be although his experience will be missed. Isaak Davies and Cian Ashford with them 2 being out leaves us all guessing if they could make a big improvement. As for Etete well no one is losing sleep over him being not available.

Obviously its better to have them available than not but would they make a big impact if they were. I'm happy to go with what is available thanks to the way we have been of late.

Carlos Corberán has offered an update on the fitness on four members of his senior squad ahead of Saturday’s Sky Bet Championship clash with Cardiff City (ko 3pm).

The boss revealed defender Kyle Bartley is set to miss the encounter at The Hawthorns owing to a knee injury – an issue which kept the No.5 out of Wednesday’s goalless draw at Blackburn Rovers.

Corberán also mentioned Lewis Dobbin felt pain in his hip after coming on in the second half at Ewood Park, leaving the on-loan winger a doubt for the clash with the Bluebirds.

Jamaica international Mason Holgate could return to the matchday squad having been unavailable for recent tests at Oxford United and Blackburn.

Elsewhere, there’s been a small “setback” for striker Daryl Dike who injured his hamstring in training.

The Spaniard accepts the American will be frustrated, but insists muscle injuries are normal at this late stage of a player’s rehabilitation process following a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Re: TEAM NEWS : “ WEST BROM v CARDIFF CITY " MATCH THREAD

Carlos said: “Kyle Bartley has been with a specialist who has been looking at his knee and deciding what the best way to fix the inflammation is. It’s the same knee he has received treatment on before.

“We’re always monitoring the situation and managing the physical load on him. It’s a moment where we are waiting for more information, but he won’t be available for the game against Cardiff City.

“We need to evaluate what the right treatment will be and the time the treatment will need to work.

“In terms of the availability of the players who played in the last game, Lewis Dobbin suffered a small pain in his hip. He’s a doubt for the game, but we are waiting to see how he’s going to react to the treatment he’s had today.

“In training this week, Daryl Dike was feeling a small pain in his hamstring. Let’s say it’s a small setback, but this is part of the process. We know that when he came back into training with the group, in this last step of his rehabilitation is when the muscle problems could appear.

“It’s not a surprise for us, but it’s also not a positive for him because he was in the last period after having a difficult time and now he has another difficult one.

“It’s a small setback that we need to manage well, but, in my opinion, it’s a normal part of this process. When you try to make your body ready again after a long time, you are going to have some muscle difficulty. The medical staff and the coaching staff understand that this is part of the process.

“It hasn’t affected my plans with Daryl or our upcoming games, but it’s important to manage this carefully because we don’t want something small to turn into something big.

“Mason Holgate trained on Thursday and if he reacts well to the training on Friday, he’s an option for Saturday.”

Great work from El Ghazi down the left flank, body-feinting well before lopping a cross into the box.

It comes off a West Brom man, first, before going out.
