Southampton beat Stoke tonight to reach the quarter finals of the Carabao Cup.
Our kids nearly beat them in our tie against them, Southampton put out mostly their second team.
Can't help thinking that if we'd included more first team players then it could be us in the quarter finals. A cup run would have been great.
Southampton have beaten to get to the quarter finals:
Us
Everton (struggling and also played their second team)
Stoke
Whoever the manager is in January, I hope they take the FA Cup seriously.

Would the downside have been the continuance of the Bulut, though…?

Would be great to have an FA cup run creates a real buzz, something still magical about the FA cup

I’m with you Ned, it would have been great for our fans and our club, it gets the whole of South Wales excited and it’s big money .

Dont think people would get too excited about Stoke. And if key players got injured Ruben, Robinson goutas etc then it would be why play them

I firmly believe that we should stop taking the piss in the cups and
Give fans something to cheer.
Those Wembley trips were the best times following the city.
Playing a weakened side doesn't help anyone. A little run does. 3 or 4 first team squad in that saints game would have done it.... it's the same drudge every season. Check out the empty seats......

We should do it for the financial benefits, also. Foolish that someone where we were at the time to make 11 changes or whatever it was!

I think there’s a time and a place for a cup run.
This season isn’t it - we’ve struggled at the start of the season and only now we are out of the relegation zone.
I’ll take championship survival over a cup run which could have injured our players or kept Bulut in a job.

That's rubbish, with respect.
A cup run can boost morale which helps the team in the league.
We were fighting for the play-offs in 2012 and still made them as well as reaching the League Cup final.
Nobody should ever turn their nose up at a cup run, it brings in so many benefits including money as others have said.

It can, but as you've stated in 2012 we were a team with momentum, a solid manager, a squad that was one of the best in the league.
This year we've already got an injury hit squad (Ramsey, ODowda, Etete, Davies) - we were bottom of the league for a long period and just got out of the relegation zone.
It can have a morale boost, but it can also cause more injuries leaving us with a depleted squad that could impact our season from a league point of view.
Appreciate that everyone will have their own views on it, but for me, this season really isn't the season for us to have had a cup run.
More important things to think about, such as survival in the championship.

No clubs take any Cup seriously! Not sure why for cariboo Cup as its at beginning of season we are getting quarter finals stage and only played a quarter of league games... if clubs played more of 1st team squad instead of swapping 8 or 9 players may get somewhere...

Always enjoyed a cup run, any cup including the Welsh cup no matter where we were in any division.

I agree the last City manager to take a Cup run seriously was Malky who got us to a Wembley final unlucky to lose to Liverpool in a penalty shootout and before that under Dave Jones was an FA Cup Final against Portsmouth again we could have won! And without doubt our greatest success in 125 years was when we won the FA Cup in 1927 hence a statue of Fred Keenor outside Stadium!
