" Cardiff City have asked the FA for assurances "

Wed Oct 30, 2024 8:54 pm

Wales’ four EFL clubs have sought assurances from the FA over their places in the English pyramid amid plans for them to play in the Welsh League Cup.

Cardiff City, Swansea City, Wrexham and Newport County have been offered the chance to enter the competition.

The winner of the Welsh league cup currently enter the Conference league at the first qualifying round. They have to play eight games to reach the group stage (all before end of August). Then there's 6 group games if we got to the group stage we'd play 12 games more than other championships teams before Christmas.

I agree!

Some of us are old enough to remember the Alun Evans era; and how ‘they’ wanted us in the League of Wales and ruined the path to the EFL/Premier League for (many) clubs and all our ambitious referees (of which we had some excellent ones) :ayatollah:

I am with you on that. Let sleeping dogs lie. We may get reassurances now, but there are too many people with vested interests who long term could stir up problems from the FAW to envious English clubs who may eye our participation in Europe as unfair and start putting pressure on the FA to get us to leave the English system. And then you have UEFA who may start questioning our participation in the English system.

Personally I couldn’t give a toss about the Welsh Cup, or being in Europe through it.

Be careful what you wish for, as the extra game load would mean extra injuries, a depleted squad, and most likely more relegation battles if not relegation itself.

All for what? To play TNS away followed by Shamrock Rovers at home? No thanks.

Unless get passed group stage won't be worth it financially unless call 5m a benefit of playing 12 extra games by time you get out of groups.... mind you if win it you get to go in europa league following season.. :laughing6:

I was at the Fans Parliament last night and the question was asked and the Club confirmed that they are speaking to the various football authorities to seek the assurances, they also confirmed that they are actively seeking to go ahead with the idea if those assurances are gained.

It’s a no for me. We are in the English pyramid and there we should stay.

Who said we were leaving it? If it hadn't been for a certain Alun Evans we would probably still be playing in the Welsh cup and Europe anyway.

If we have to leave the English pyramid system just to play in it then certainly not.
