1 full season of playing and scoring will return him a stronger player.

He is cup-tied now, so his only opportunity was the third round of the FA cup, but he would be 5th or 6th choice CM behind Robertson, Ralls, Siopis, Turnbull, Rinomhota or 5th choice AM behind his brother, Ramsey, Ashford, & Willock
I guess the club are thinking he is Ralls replacement next season, so he needs a 40-game season in his legs

I agree.
Somebody said in this strand he will replace Ramsey, but that’s not his position from what I have seen. I think Joel playing alongside Robertson in that holding midfield spot is really exciting.
So really he’ll be a much needed replacement/backup for Siopis and Ralls.
He does need to prove himself at this level but that’s a lot easier in a team that tries to play on the front foot and now has a manager who wants to go out and win matches rather than just trying not to lose them !!

So at see its Joel is playing a more advanced position, so if he comes back at Christmas and Rambo returns to some sort of fitness he has to fight with his brother, Ramsey, Ashford and Willock for that attacking midfielder role. Or do you have that much faith in him he will replace all of them?
As i see it the club has to make big calls in the summer in regards to Ralls and Ramsey. Joel is obviously either one of their replacements.
If he returns early he will barely get any minutes. I think its better for players development to play a full season of mens football than a few minutes first team and U21
Colwill returns as a 21 year old with a full season in his legs.

Shouldn't be playing at League Two level, I bet Cheltenham couldn't believe their luck when they got him.

How is it crazy???
Explain
If you play long enough with very low standard players you become worse not better.
Name me “ 5 players “ who Cardiff City have sent out on loan to League 2 / Non League and Welsh League and come back and made it in the Championship for us in the last 15 years???
Please name them as you say it’s a crazy idea to bring him back in January.
Joel is class and is not a kid and the standard he is with now is not good.
Joel Colwill is not a kid, he’s 20 yrs old.
Norwich had two 18 yr odds v us yesterday
This was Bulut and Purses idea.
Because you’ve said it’s Crazy,
COME ON NAME 5 PLAYERS IN THE LAST 15 YEARS / COME ON
If Joel was at Brum, Huddersfield, Bolton , Wrexham etc I would agree with you like Alex Robertson went to a promotion chasing club.
JUST NAME ONLY 5 PLAYERS WHO HAVE MADE IT ???
Just 5 in the last 15 yrs

We are Cardiff City, our track reciord with players as you say is abysmal so we have no credibility in the loan out department.
If you are a L1 club, who would you loan from Man city, Liverpool, Arsenal or Cardiff city? We have no history, you have to go back to Malkys era for Ralls to Yeovil for success for both parties.
If we let it be known that he can go to an L1 club, let's see whats happens, he should be snapped up if reports from Cheltenham continue.

Fair enough, We should offer Joel to League 1 clubs a much higher standard.
Personally and other coaches believe he’s ready now.
As to how many have succeeded in the last 15 years by us sending them out to very lower leagues, Non League , Welsh League is “ ZERO”
That’s why I worry about Joel.

So you think he will come back a better player?
Who else has ever ?

Ned,
Joel is quality all the coaches believe he’s good enough to be in our team.
Bulut and Purse came up With one of their pathetic ideas send him to lower league.
He’s should go to Top League 1 or rejoin us in January he’s 20 yrs old and real quality

Surely a lot of clubs would be clambering for a player of his calibar for a season? It's not like they've not had opportunities to see him play for both our and the nation teams youth system.
This isn't a dig it's a genuine question, because I can't get my head around this?
