"From one point, now we’re at 15, I think they exerted a lot of energy to do so. They had to take a lot on board and towards the back end of it, we felt that.

"The last two games, the two defeats, tiredness crept in I think and also obviously, we just weren’t good enough in certain parts of the games.

"In general, the block was good and they needed that rest to go away, come back in refreshed and ready to go again hopefully."

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY:

Sheffield Wednesday’s manager is Danny Röhl, who was appointed back in October 2023.

Röhl had a short playing career, representing lower league teams in Germany before stepping into coaching.

The German boss began his coaching journey as an analyst at RB Leipzig, after retiring as a player, working his way all the way up to assistant manager in under four years.

The 35-year-old continued to work his way up in the football world having stints as assistant manager at Southampton, Bayern Munich and the German National Team, before getting his first managerial role at Sheffield Wednesday just over a year ago.

Last season, Röhl took over with the Owls seven points from safety and without a win in 10 games, the German orchestrated an impressive turnaround keeping Wednesday up by three points.

Since taking over, he has won 24 games, drawn nine and lost 24, with a win percentage of 42.11%.

"Joe Ralls has trained, he's got through training so he will be in contention to be back in the squad. Sio [Manolis Siopis] and Rubin Colwill trained today. Andy Rinomhota gets back in with us tomorrow.

"Callum Robinson has been training. He's come through well and he'll be in contention to be in the squad as well. Kion Etete had a little setback against Brentford (friendly), so he's been put back a couple of weeks now. He'll be a few more weeks. Aaron Ramsey has picked up a slight problem as well with the injury, so it might be a bit further down the line, we have to wait for the medical staff to clarify on that one."

Cardiff City midfielder Aaron Ramsey has suffered a setback in his bid to return from a hamstring injury.
The Wales captain, 33, has not played since sustaining the injury during his country’s Nations League win in Montenegro in September.


Having originally been scheduled to be back playing after two months, Ramsey had returned to training with Cardiff before the new problem occurred.


"Aaron has picked up a slight problem as well with the injury so it might be a bit further down the line," said the Bluebirds’ interim manager Omer Riza.
"We’re waiting for the medical team to clarify that. We have to be guided on that."



Striker Kion Etete, who has not played at all this season due to a hamstring injury, has also seen his return date pushed back.
"Kion had a little setback in the Brentford game [friendly during this month’s international break] so he’s been put back a couple of weeks. That was more cautionary," said Riza.

Ramsey injured again, doesn't even surprise me anymore. He needs to retire at the end of the season.

Contract is up, we definitely shouldn't offer him a new playing deal - as a coach yes.

Another setback for Etete, he's another injury prone player we could do without. Again highlights why we need a new striker in January - Robinson can't play every game.



But good news that Robertson and Ralls are both fit and available.

Cardiff City interim manager Omer Riza hopes his "honest" meeting with club owner Vincent Tan in Malaysia will help him stay in the job.

Riza, 45, made the whistle-stop journey to Kuala Lumpur last week, seeking clarity over his position having been in the temporary role since Erol Bulut's dismissal two months ago.

Cardiff have gone from bottom of the Championship to 3rd from bottom in Roxa’s 9 games, but have slumped in their last two outings.

When he was asked if his own position and future were discussed, however, Riza did not give much away.

"But it was a really good trip and I'm happy to have done it, to go out there and show what my intentions were."

Cardiff have been keen to explore all managerial options after sacking Bulut on 22 September following the Bluebirds’ worst start to a season in the club’s history.

Riza was installed to allow Cardiff to take their time in the search for a new boss, which has been led by chief executive Ken Choo.

But there was also a willingness to give Riza a chance to impress after the former Arsenal player made it clear he felt able to succeed in the job.

Despite a lack of frontline management experience, Riza has overseen a marked improvement in form and playing style, with 14 points collected from his nine games in charge.

There have been calls - including from former Cardiff and Wales striker Nathan Blake - for the club to make a swift decision, and Riza hopes that will be to keep him in post.

“Our football has improved and I told Mr Tan this and the players are all behind me and 90% of our fans.”

"I’ve loved every moment of it. I don’t want it to stop. The boys, the staff, the people around the club have been brilliant. We’ve achieve a lot in a short space of time," he said.

"We’re not going to win every game. The best teams in the league are not winning every game, so why are we expected to? There shouldn’t be that expectation. Obviously we want to win and be champions and go up to the Premier League but, I’ve said it all along, it’s the process that’s important.”
